Ollie 99
hi people I have just purchased a new single barrel baikal .410 hushpower for use on an raf base to control the rabbit population, it is a great gun and kills rabbits at a supprising range. the only problem is its not as quite as i thought it would be and still sounds quite loud. Is this because the gun is new or am i using the wrong ammunition. i have tried 2in 2.5in and 3in gamebore.

I use a hushpower 12 and with subs it is actually quieter than the .410! Regards Graham
Graham M
Oh please don't tell me that you bought a single barrel because you thought it would be half as quiet as a double barrel……….. G.M. :o :o
Quist
You've got to use subsonics. It always sounds louder if your close. Get someone to fire it when your fifty yards away
Zapp
Ollie I've just started using a hushed single barrel .410 Webley. I am using NON sub 2 1/2 lyalvale 6's, and the gun makes a sort of "pop" with a muffled, yet still sharp crack when fired. I know if I buy some proper subs, the crack (which is a mini sonic boom from the shot as it breaks the sound barrier) will be eliminated, so all I'll be left with is the popping sound. Also, as Quist pointed out, you will hear far more when firing the gun than you will at a distace (the effect is quite dramatic). Try getting someone to fire it 50 yds away, like Quist said, and if you still arent happy, go and get some subs. Good luck Z
tosspot
the accoustics of your surroundings ie buildings, water ect will effect the noise as quoted above if your away from the shot there is a discernable difference if it's sheer quietness your after Eley 2 3/4 fourlongs i have found to be best but not as pokey as 3" of course
Ollie 99
thanks for that, and have taken your advice and bought some today. any other advice to making the gun quiter you could offer would be very useful. Graham just cheaper, and althought baikal make a double barrel, you cant get a double barrel modorator, and if you could it would be like trying to shoot with drain pipe.
