phoenix
Good afternoon, new member just joined yesterday. Back into shooting after a long lay off due to work, divorce, kids etc etc. After some help or advise please. I am totally left handed at everything, I shoot rifles right handed no problem, but when it comes to shotguns I have a question. The gun feels so much more natural and comfortable when held in the left shoulder and I can swing through in a more natural flow,my right eye is the dominant one. Should I persist shooting right handed and not feeling "natural" or is there anything else I can/should do? Thanks in advance

Thanks in advance I'd shoot left handed if that feels more natural and try shooting with both eyes open and then close your right eye and see if thats any better? I was told one time by a coach that eye dominance can change with time, don't know how true that is?!
fenboy
Shoot left handed and just close you right eye , there are plenty of very good shots who shoot with one eye closed

bigmanuk
Hi, I am exactly the same as you. I am totally left handed at everything and have a dominant right eye. I have had a few lessons and all have told me to shoot left handed and try to keep both eyes open. I tend to have both eyes open and then close my right eye at the last minute. Another trick that works to train your left eye, is to wear a pair of safety glasses and wipe vasoline on the right eye piece. This worked really well for me as it allows you to shoot with both eyes open; as the right eye cannot see properly it trains the left eye to become dominant. By wearing the glasses it allows you to maintain a better focal vision which you lose if you keep your right eye closed all the time. finreid
had a mate with a similar problem, and he got a pair of shooting glasses and put a couple of stickers over his dominant eye in order to shoot off his natural shoulder. or you could always get an eyepatch!!!
