Cosd
Nice motor Cos, your local filling station owner must be over the moon, he'll be seeing a lot more of you from now on, I'll bet he'll even be sending you a Christmas card. Cat. That's why all the petrol station attendants wave and smile as I drive past Way toooooo clean for shooting Got to have 2 year old mud welded to it to be a proper shooters motor Ok only saying that because mines always muddy and coverd in user minor improvised body customiseing marks I'm on the lookout for permisions with tarmac around the hedgerows
PhilR
Looks a nice truck Cos. I hope you picked a good 'un and you enjoy the LR experience. It's only around £130 to brim fill the fuel tank so don't let SWMBO see the credit card statements.
Alycidon
Done over 500,000 miles in auto Discos, had one of the first auto 200s . Excellent tools, excellent off road reasonably shod. Current TD5 has done 235,000, no major issues. Fuel injectors will need replacement at about 180,000, both my Discos did anyway. Normally I get about 26mpg on road, around 15mpg towing a big trailer. Never been cleaned other than when it rains, proper working tools. A
Cosd
Thanks for the comments guys! So far I love the car. Coming out of a Mercedes and getting into a 4x4 I was a little apprehensive regards the Disco's road manners. Not only is it my first 4x4 but also my first diesel, so initial take off from standstill felt very different. In the Petrol Merc you just need to tickle the throttle and it's away, the Disco needs a little more; Once moving though the Disco feels good on the pull and once on the motorway the car is at it's best. I'm pleasantly surprised just how good it is on the motorway, I really thought the car would bobble around, but it's in fact very sure footed. On bends there is little to no roll at all which was my biggest surprise. I'll be interested to see what I get in MPG, the car has been mapped so I don't know what it will do. As PhilR said it's a small fortune to fill up, I did wonder if there was a hole in the tank as the £'s just kept going past my normal £80 to fill the Merc Sod's law weather looks like rain all week so won't be able to take it off road, but there'll be loads of time for that too... andy_s
I stalled mine a lot when i first got it, couldn't get used to having to use the throttle so much. I only get about 25mpg but only because I drive it like a car to and from work. Mine also leaks water onto the roof lining whichm is something to look out for. I siliconed up the front sun roof and that stopped it but with all this rain we've had around here it seems the back one is leaking now. Unless it's the roof bars. Nothing a silicone tube and gun can't fix though.
scobydog
With reference to warning lights, Cockermax, if they stay on it is an mot fail as i have just found to my cost.
Cockermax
Thanks for that, I remember father in law saying it was coming in soon. Another common problem as I found out today is the Fuel Pressure Regulator Leaking at the rear of the engine block. About £130 for new one and a pain to get to. Ah well Landrovers. JRDS
Congratulations. I ran a 300TDI for 6 years and put a lift pump on it in 60k other than standard servicing. Have been running a TD5 Manual for 12 months, done 153k now and it drives superbly and returns 30mpg. Had to fit one new front Hub Aassembly other than that nothing, just going in for its MOT and annual service shortly. All TD5 seven seaters were Airbag suspension, it was another crazy EU directive. Mine being a 5 seat has the optional springs and I am glad it has, at least I won't find it collapsed anytime. Great motors which are much maligned by people who have never had one. Had a 4Runner prior to the Discos and far far prefer the Landys.
