ilovemyheckler
I have recently bought an item from the states (half the price of the same item in the UK) and although it was delivered to the UK in 3 days it has since been sat waiting for "customs clearance" for 6 days. Any idea how long this "customs clearance" can take?
ME
HMRC take as long as they want. Sometimes immediate, sometimes 3-10 days.
casts_by_fly
as said, they can take a couple days or weeks. They need to assess the value of the item, the VAT and possible import duty you're going to pay, and then pass it along to parcel force to deliver it to you. If it is a restricted item or similar to a restricted item they have to assess if you're allowed to even have it and might refuse entry. what was it that you ordered? Thanks, Rick
Donki Oaty
Last time I did it. Customs had my items for nearly two weeks.

casts_by_fly
that should only hit you with VAT (on the cost plus shipping cost) plus the parcel force fee. Given the description (remote control shooter) I can see why they might take a little longer to figure out what it is. Thanks, Rick

HDAV
its seems a gamble if it gets stopped or not IT is and it depends who see's it and who ships it. I had some stuff sent by TNT from isreal ( :yp: ) and Fedex from the states the stuff from isreal just arrived at my door in a week, the stuff from the states was in the UK in 48 hours! But then took 2 weeks to be delviered with fedex requiring all sorts of paperwork after the VAT etc had been paid.
Mangled99
I find anything from the states always get hit with charges but most things from other country's comes straight in without any charge. Bloody customs and excise that's why I never buy anything from the states any more.

Thedeerman
try getting it labelled as gift or a reduced value You are only allowed a gift or a certian value. £36 IIRC?
ack-ack
I imported a pair of high quality replica vegas Elvis shades. Got done for £75 duty!!!! My act wouldn't be the same without them though.
casts_by_fly
You are only allowed a gift or a certian value. £36 IIRC? gift or not the shipped in import value is around £36 or maybe a little less. Gift means nothing when it comes to VAT. If you are personally carrying an item or items then you can bring just under 400 worth without paying vat. thanks rick
