dodeer
I have a budget of £ 1750 for a new game gun in one of the above makes. Either 12 or 20 bore. What would be your choice and whats your views over the different makes. My thought was a 687 EL 20 bore or a Browning 425 Grd 3, but I have been turned against Brownings as my dad had a B2G and it got so rusty ( even on the first drive of a rainy day) and if he took it upto scotland goose shooting it was red with rust!!! I also cannot decide on 12 v's 20. Used them both, shot better on clays with 20 but better with 12 on game.
Cranfield
Are you thinking of a side by side, or under and over ? If over and under, then I was very impressed with the Berretta 682 Gold E, I lovingly handled at my local Gunshop. I tend to find Mirokus are "heavy, chunky" guns. I have not found one I felt comfortable with. Brownings being prone to rust, is new to me. I have a few friends that swear by theirs, especially the clay shooters. You could also consider a "good" English secondhand gun for a budget of £1750. Go and try, or at least handle, as many makes and models as possible. Its a nice problem to have. I would buy a 12 bore, rather than a 20 bore. I know you can kill geese at 100 yards with a 20 bore ( ), but I think the 12 gives you more options. Hammergun
Buy yourself some Rangoon oil from your gun shop. It is a heavy oil which repels water and rust-proofs your metalwork. It also resists fingermarks. Thoroughly clean down the metalwork, then apply it with a patch, ensuring you get it in all the hard to rech places. Don't put it on too thick or it will run. This will prevent rust, even on really wet days. Also never put the gun back in its slip wet. Use an old towel to dry it off, and ideally let it stand somewhere warm and airy or at least spray it with some gun spray oil.
neil
Any othe three makes will be good guns so its down to what you like best, like cranfield i also prefer berettas for the slimmer action, they just look and feel better to me but its a persional thing,so if it was me i wouldgo for an EL beretta in 12g
Guest flightline
I agree with Neil that it`s a personal thing and that they`re all good guns. I`ve had a Browning which never suffered from the sort of rust problem described. I`ve now got a new Miroku hunter 12g and I`m very happy with it, having looked at Berettas and the new Browning 525. Cranfield
samf, you sure about the fixed chokes ? What about multichokes ?
Deako
Samf, I have owned your gun of choice for some years, but in 20 bore...it handles like a dream. Never believe the rubbish spouted that a twenty is less than a twelve...it ain't! As a game, and especially walked-up gun, the twenty is unbeatable. Sent mine to Nigel Teague to have it bored out to I/C and 1/4, patterned for Hull Sterling Game...sweet. Just my opinion, of course.

It was the satin finish I think, plus I found it a bit clunky.
Teal
Other peoples opinions are only soo good. Try and test out as many of the guns you are considering purchasing as you can, a gun can feel a lot difference when you raise it to the shoulder in a shop than how it fares on a clay pigeon range.
