I'm looking for 12v Electric motor for a pecker. It needs to be around 40-50 rpm - does anyone know where to get one - I've googled and can't seem to find any in the UK.

I brought one of these...

Well made! you will find them cheaper just hunt around on there

and mine.

MFA are UK. the make their own motors with gear boxes. they supply to pinewood.

918D5001/1 £9.50 ea. plus £3.50 postage

To be honest I did have a good look at the MFA website and I missed this model. I was looking in the minature DC motors section, not the gearboxes where this model is located !

These motors would have been just the job at that price as well !

Rapid Electronics are always worth a look - see www.rapidonline.com

Another source is an old car windscreen wiper motor.

PS I could set it as a problem for my Yr10 kids except I know the reaction I would get. "Right boys, I need help with a problem with my pecker..."

  There would be a lot of giggling going on !

I am struggling to locate an 'off the shelf' cam/bellcrank to fit the motor shaft. The shaft is 3mm diameter. ANy ideas ?

My father in law is an Ex-Rolls Royce engineer so he's been helping me - in fact he been making it and he has no interest in shooting. He just loves having a project !

If it is a light load I would cut one from acrylic. You may be able to cut an M3 thread on the motor shaft and tap the hole in the cam (drill is 2.5mm for an M3 thread). Once you have fitted the cam, use a 3mm nyloc nut to hold it all in place. If you cannot thread the motor shaft you will have to find something with a boss and grub screw to clamp it on. In this case you could use a model wheel, gear or pulley. The cam can then be screwed to what ever you use. Some motors have a flat machined into the shaft to allow the grub screw prevent slippage.

If you need something laser cutting from acrylic send me some details in a pm and I may be able to help.

I am always happy to help out if I can. My background is marine engineering but I now teach Design Technology (Systems and Control) so may be able to assist with electronics including low-cost PIC based control systems, mechanisms etc. I always enjoy problem solving and kicking ideas about - anyone local can meet up but advice is available wherever!
