I'm sure that the 60000 members of the French resistance alone that were killed by the Nazi's are laughing away at this moment. And lets not mess about with them today-they could crush us with their superior forces-you can thank a constant raping of our armed forces,by successive governments, for this.

Why stop at the armed forces our government's have been raping our whole country for years

all they needed were the remains of a cheese eating surrender monkey sat in the fetal position in the corner clutching a white flag, would have made a believer out of me.

Joking aside they held their own in the First world war. Unfortunately they relied on the same tactics second time round and didn't really stand a chance. Had they gone on the offensive early doors it may have been different but after the blood bath only a few years earlier you can forgive them for hoping the fuss would die down and normal life would return.

It really pees me off the way people slag of the French people as being cowards and we are so much better than them there is only one reason that the Germans did not overrun us and that is the twenty miles of water that stopped them. if there was a land passage we would all be speaking German having said that also we could not have stopped them without the Americans saving us yet again.

Got to stick up for the Frenchies (a bit), they held their ground and took a hammering in WW1. By the time WW2 came around they were sick of war and not looking forward to the prospect of another. Up until WW2 wars could and were settled quite 'amicably', one side surrendering when soundly beaten then most likely after negotiations conceding a bit of territory on their boundary (land was forever changing ownership this way). Then afterwards carrying on pretty much as normal (until trying to win the lost territory back a generation or so later), that was how wars had been settled for centuries. No doubt this was the French thinking in WW2, unfortunately for them and Europe as a whole A.Hitler was now playing by a different set of rules.
