Stratts
Hi chaps we have found a new earth on our perm with an area of flattened grass all over which looks like it could be where cubs are playing. Staked it out last night and an adult came out but we never saw any young. I'm going to check it out some more and at different times to see if there are cubs too. What is the best method for sorting the lot if there are cubs too. I'm not a wuss by any stretch but I don't feel comfortable shooting the adult/s then leaving the cubs to starve as I cannot go there every morning and night. I also won't have a problem shooting the cubs. How do you guys do the deed? Cheers
Beardo
Depends if the cubs are old enough to come out of the earth yet? Sounds like they may still be too young in which case i'd leave it as you don't want them starving to death underground (although if there's lots of flattened grass they're probably out). Wait and see if you can see some cubs out - then shoot the mother and leave her near the entrance and the cubs will come out after a while, then the cubs can be dispatched. al4x
shoot the adult / s then the cubs will come out on their own and take them one at a time. Have a lamp with you and you can wrap it up in an evening, just helps to know how many cubs there are and whether both adults are there as well. They should be out and mobile judging by the ones around here Edited May 10, 2012 by al4x

johnny
Find someone with a terrier job done
Frenchieboy
If you intend shooting them without the use of terriers then you could do a lot worse for yourself than to take a look at this thread and see how it is done properly! http://forums.pigeonwatch.co.uk/forums/index.php?/topic/208097-foxes-the-second-set/
Scully
After shooting the vixen last weekend(we failed to get a shot at the dog)we went back last night and waited for the cubs to come out. We shot all seven in the space of an hour. Not exactly chuffed as they're bonny little things.Even the landowner was saddened by the whole episode, but it was by necessity an unpleasant job done well.
