Independent gun reviews on this forum

As we all know, the magazines only ever write basically only good reports on gun reviews as the gun makers or importers are major advertisers in the magazines

When you look at a certain reviewer who contributes to a few magazines every thing is either 7/10 or above so hardly constructive critic's report

Is it not time for a sub section on this forum where we can have our own users reviews on their guns, which hopefully would be more honest and meaningfull although a few will still be biased to their own perfect gun , but even so this will show up in their comments

Review could include say, Make, Model, Quality of wood, Engraving, How long held and any problems during that time, Would you buy again, Price new, price now (based on gun trader price for simular)

Two subsections Rifles and Shotguns, with further subsections for each make

yes but all reviews are going to be subjective. the best thing to do if you want to buy something is to google it to death.

I've tried that numerous times and you get the same subjective reviews, it just takes longer to find them among the dross.

I think a review section is a good idea. It could potentially be a headache for the mods though. Such posts will necessarily be lengthy and sifting the wheat from the chaff and the unintelligable garbage could be a lot of work.

Maybe there could be some 'at a glance' stats such as length of timed owned, professional or recreational use, rounds fired per year or something, otherwise I can see a pile of breathless reviews from people who've just bought a new gun, had it a week and think its the best thing since sliced bread but don't even know how to get the stock off.

Excellent idea in theory, tricky one to get right.

And the point will be they will still be subjective because not only is the reviewer going to be reviewing their OWN choice and therefore their OWN opinion on what they bought but they have very little comparative experience of other products on offer.

For example, one rifle is constantly rated on this forum and is "wonderful" but fom a comparative technical viewpoint its missing a component, a recoil lug. For its price it is respectable and reasonable value for money but it is easy for a comparative eye to see how design features have been deleted purely to save money.

what rifle is that?
