So, did they say how they went about finding a suitable photo for the article? Surely they don't just trawl t'Interweb until they find something that they like the look of and then just *nick* it? Thats the thing, you are entitled to put your work out in any form and unless you state they are free for anybody to use it is illegal for anybody to use them without the permission of the owner. The newspaper admitted they had done wrong and have paid me a royalty, as for putting copyright signs etc across your photos, it looks pretentious and ruins the photos, (as intended) for others to look at I have no problems with people putting them as screen savers and several have asked and I will send them a copy of the original.
