southeastpete
I read something earlier (somewhere...) and it made me thinik. I have often wondered about this. I have often read trhat it is illegal to lamp pigeons at night. What if you have reasonable vision without using a lamp, or use night vision to shoot pigeons out of trees at night? Is it shooting them at night that is illegal, or with a lamp?
karpman
I believe you can't shoot them after dusk and before dawn type thing, so if its dark its a no no. Unless were talking feral pigs then knock your self out. Not that I see a need to lamp woodies mind Karpman
southeastpete
yea, sometimes im out with the shotty at night for rabbits, and i hear the pigeons fly out of the trees above me, and i look up, and can sometimes see them against the sky. Ive never taken the shot, mainly from not wanting to scare the rabbits just yet. But have always wondered on the legality...
kdubya
what the general license permits # (d) in relation to the killing or taking of Feral Pigeon (Columba livia) only: i. to use any device for illuminating a target or any sighting device for night shooting; ii. to use any form of artificial lighting or any mirror or other dazzling device. thats it as far as lights go now if you can see in the dark thats a different matter. Fisheruk
I've shot pigeons at night. On a moonlit night you can often see them roosting in outline. Often get a couple before the rest take flight. Best in the winter when the leaf drop has occurred.
