HDAV
Short answer trap targets are always going away, long answer see google.......
casts_by_fly
and can be a long way away and moving fast really quickly. So a bit more choke means a more dense pattern at range. rick
Sharpshooter.123
I always used a tight choked game gun for trap some very long fast targets
bedwards1966
Trap guns have tight chokes as the target is going away quickly, and it's not close to start with. They tend to shoot higher than a sporting gun, and can often have a higher rib. The reason for shooting higher is because the target is rising. Skeet is done with fairly close targets and often cartridges containing more pellets (i.e no. 9's for skeet, 7.5's for trap or sporting layouts), so an open choke allows plenty of spread without getting holes in the pattern, which you would find if shooting at the same distances you do when trap shooting. Sporting guns shoot flatter than trap guns, but you can use one gun for everything, you can also use once cartridge for everything, and one choke for everything - if you are a good shot. By having gun, choke and cartridge combinations that suit the targets you give yourself a better chance of hitting them.
Guest cookoff013
all shooting diciplines have guns that are set up optimal to the user. some trap guns are only set up for single targets too. they have a different poi and this can be adjusted by, altering the stock and or having an alterable rib. this can be adjusted to shoot whatever the shooter preferes. same for skeet. set choke confuguration. sporting is "way" to varied to have a "tried and tested" setup. all this is very subjective but also should include cartridge selection. skeet with BBs is silly, but then is trap shooting #10s
