30-6
My oldest son has just bought a kayak and asked me for my old keep net i used when i use to go coarse fishing, so he could keep any catch alive to be able to return any unwanted fish back to the sea. The one i have is about 10 or 12 feet long, so i am thinkin this could be used if not all of the length is let out. Or is there a purpose made keep net for kayak fishing ? Blunderbust
Don't encourage him to deploy a 10 to 12 foot keep net out from his Kayak in the sea. Just tell him to be selective in what he keeps and let the small ones go. I think having such a net out from the Yak could be dangerous. I normaly use an old doby net from my army days to keep the fish that I intend on keeping cool. I would defo not have even part of the keep net hanging over the side of my Yak. UKPoacher
I had a bait box on my kayak that I could fill with water and keep the catch alive. I wouldn't use a keepnet off a kayak as it would cause too much drag when paddling. I'd suggest a carp sack. You can hang it over the side when drifting or at anchor, then haul it aboard when paddling. It might not keep the fish alive, but it will keep them cool and fresh. UKPoacher
I didn't mean to use it as a keepnet. More a means of keeping your dead catch fresh while you are out there.
39TDS
I would think there's a damned good way to encourage a seal "incident".
evo
would he not be better using a stringer through the gills,,certainly would not use a keepnet as this would surely affect the stability of the kayak,,defo think a stringer would be a better idea,,hope this helps
UKPoacher
I would think there's a damned good way to encourage a seal "incident". No US Military Special Units were operating where I fished as far as I know. Mind you. With their previous for getting lost I suppose they could have unknowingly infiltrated East Yorkshire.
