super sharp shooter
Is a Mossberg 500at steel proofed? Anyone use one for wildfowling? Thanks. Can I shoot steel shot through all barrels ? No, not all barrels. Barrels with an interchangeable Accu-Choke™ or Accu-Mag™ choke tube system, yes (with proper tubes installed.) However, steel shot is not recommended for older "C-Lect Choke®" or fixed-choke barrels.

Gizza22196
cant see a problem with putting it through 1/4, i think its either half and over or over half that people tend not to use steel shot
Guest cookoff013
cip recomends no more than 1/2 choke british guntrade assoc recomends no more than 1/4 also shotsize limitations for different cartridges and gauges.
RossEM
It's worth mentioning that CIP recommends: Standard (not "High Performance") steel loads (normally 70mm or 2 3/4" case length) up to shot size 4, in standard Nitro Proof 12 bore barrels having no more than half choke. For instance, you could safely use Gamebore Super Steel 32g 4's in that gun. Just remember if you increase the choke, cartridge case length or shot size, you risk damaging the gun - or yourself. HDAV
Also worth noting Americans don't proof guns, do its proofed to whatever the importer requested of the proof house if you like u can submit it for proof and see if it passes
kent
Also worth noting Americans don't proof guns, do its proofed to whatever the importer requested of the proof house if you like u can submit it for proof and see if it passes MMm,yet they use a load way up on presure to anything you might purchase to expose weakness. personally i use a few non steel proofed guns and know others who do so at our own risk using chokes 1/2 or less constriction. i am having my 10 bored out 1/2 and 1/2 this weekend and will be shooting Remmington nitro steel BB through it, it was built before steel was even on the market. Steel shot proofed barrels are far harder steel to try and combat pitting and scoring, it does to a degree but not as good as one might hope so perhaps its best to leave any realy nice gun on lead and bismouth. But an old Mosberg if it was in good mecanical order?
Wildfowler325
Yes you should be able to shoot steel through it
HDAV
MMm,yet they use a load way up on presure to anything you might purchase to expose weakness. Indeed is it a 3" chamber? If so you can have it proofed for high performance steel. If its 2 3/4 there not alot of HP steel loads
