Axe
Looking good Kirky, i'd stick with the V-Max rounds personaly. Though I do admit I havent tried the 20gr HP's yet, I have heard they are better on your fox chest shots.
Down South
Nice setup Kirky. Use 20gr hollow points if you are hunting for meat otherwise stick to balistic tipped rounds. I've shot 2 foxes recently @ 70yds ish and both were not instant kills (chest shots). I've just started using Federal V shock 17gr and they are devastating. The first rabbit I shot with it at about 40 yds in the head = not much head left, another at 70 yds ish in the head same effect. I think this is the round for close range fox. Good shooting. DS. Axe
DS have you compared the differences of the HP and V-Max on a chest shot Fox?
Down South
Hi Axe, no I've not had the chance to compare yet (hopefull out tonight). I just know that the 20 gr hollow point can pass through a fox at 70 yds and although its going to be fatal its not satifactory. The 2 foxes I shot recently were both lung shot and going nowhere. I couldn't head shoot them as the were a bit jumpy. I won't use 20 gr on fox again!
Deer Man
Be sparing with your ammo boys and girls! There seems to be a major problem importing from America! Tim Hannam will only sell 1000 to dealers! I use both the V Max and 20grn, prefer the 17grn V Max certainly happy slaps the head shot rabbits! farmer
out this evening zeroed gun in at 50 yards great grouping and again at 100yards very happy with results went on to shoot a couple of rabbits at 80 yards and both were stone dead very happy with my cz .17 and its a nice sized handy gun happy days ps charlie should be getting nervese!!! im using 17 gr v max remington boat tail anyone any sujestions on any other rounds all comments very welcome as im very new to the .17 hmr thanks kirky My Cz is great with the Remington V-max but anything else is a nightmare. I bought a box of hornady 17gr v-max and it was sendeing them all over the place . I think it just depends on the gun because I know people who swear by the Hornady rounds. I've taken the odd Charlie with mine but just make sure you are sure and if you can get him close enough the brain box is the place to hit him. Axe
DS & Mark, thanks for the correction. I'm very happy with the V-Max and to date have had no wants to try the HP's. I definitely won't bother now.
caplock
Hi Kirky My cz varment is happy with any rounds available but groups were a smidge tighter with the Hornady rounds in both tipped and hollow point. I've certainly found that the hollow point 20 grainers stay together more and have been good fox droppers, especially on frontal chest shots where they carry deeper and on a couple of occcasions passed through from front to ba11s. Found that the blow up effect of the tipped 17 grainers, whilst giving a large cavity wound has produced a couple of crawlers for 10 or 15 yards or so. Tipped are certainly lethal on rabbits and crows out to 180 yds so far. By the way have you modded the trigger??, I hear alot of people buy the kit but mine seemed fine from the box as was. Maybe CZ were listening to the feed back Cheers
