Wildfowler12
I'm after a new gunslip, it's for the marsh so nothing fancy. Thing is, I went through 4... Yes 4 gunslips last year as the straps kept on breaking! I tried restitching, but they never have the same strength! It's probably because I usually buy cheap ones on the bay at about £15 a go. Anyway i'm thinking of one of the Jack Pyke slips, they're about £30. Has anyone got one and if so, can you let me know if the strap feels 'sturdy' lol. Wildfowler12
Thanks mate, I'm impressed by most of the JP range so I think I'll go for that one
cant hit rabbits 123
I got a really nice canvas one, leather strap, seemed really sturdy. Cheap too! Yep, strap snapped right off. On the other hand, the battered old cheap one that came with a gun I bought, same age as the gun (early 90's) strong as ever! I'd go and personally inspect them if I was you, in the shop, and possibly consider spending a bit more for higher quality. You'll save money in the long term that way. scotty38
Give Phil a ring or email here My link Cracking work, I bought a bag from him at the shooting show and got a slip a few weeks back. Can't fault his service, top drawer. Just to add he'll make you what you want I have a canvas and leather job but he does them starting at about £30. bakerboy
And remember, Never fold the slip in half as this will damage the Zip. Most complaints on gunslips are broken Zips and this is the reason, (always break at about half way) Edited July 22, 2012 by bakerboy

NickS
An irritation of mine is when the zip extends right round where the end of the barrels are. I got one as a freebie but it didn't take long before the zip opened up at the wrong end. Fixed by putting some stitches in but it could have resulted in expensive damage when the gun drops out of the bottom. Nick
kent
Zippers are a WFT on wildfowling slips! i have a folding one that also floats (i see no great advantage in it floating, other than you could watch it drift off) though it makes a fair seat. worst wilfowling slips are fleese lined, they get wet and heavy and ruin a gun left inside very quickly
chrispti
I have had one of these for a few years. Very well made, no zips to break, the top has a spring loaded opening (like a money pouch/purse that you squeeze to open) velcro and a strap to keep it all closed and secure. All the loops and shoulder strap fastenings are made of metal and are well attached to the slip via a fully stitched on webbing strap Couldn't recommend them enough
