ChrisAsh
I have just brought a used Remington 1100 LW 410 and find that when fired the empty cartridge case is often minus its primer or in other instances the primer is nearly pulled out, this happens in about 5 out of 50-75 shots I have replaced the o ring with a factory one and this improved slightly I assume the reason is possibly either a weak spring allowing the block to move back to soon or exsessive back presure Cartridges were a veriety of popular 410 loads in 2.5" length 14 gram nO 9'S (ENGLISH SIZE) gave the gun a good clean, but have not touched either the magazine (seems strong spring) or the action spring (not sure how to remove it) Link spring looks OK Any expert advice welcomed
Amazed
Hi pal, just a thort. I had a thort when I had a firing pin made its was a bit long and sharp and it caused problems putting holes in primers . Have you checked the pin ?
Gordon R
If you find the problem is a non-standard pin, which is too long - give me a shout. I have a new spare one knocking about.
ChrisAsh
Hi Folk No the pin is not going through the primer just hitting it My own thoughts are either the action spring may be weak or something wrong on the gas side as it ejects the empties about 12 feet away What effect would say a worn piston and seal make or worn link? It sounds like its allow far too much gas through the system, worn or corroded gas ports perhaps?
DSPUK
If it's throwing empty 12 ft it could very well be a weak or worn recoil spring in stock - It is reccommended for semi auto's you change them on a regular basis. never heard of worn or corroded gas ports though. Dave I saw some once, it was quite an old gun that had suffered a real hammering in its life, rarely cleaned. New owner bought it as a knock about gun, cleaned out the barrel and the gas ports were significatly enlarged. Now sure how they got life that but I'd say it was linked to heavy use and/or lack of cleaning. A weak spring very well may be the cause of the issue, and in all fairness, is much more likely the cause.
deershooter
One barrel out of the 3 I owned had adjustable gas ports does yours? Deershooter
ChrisAsh
Thanks for the help It does not have the adjustabe gas ports, but they look clean and last night I soaked them in Bore cleaner for half a hour Tried to get the spring in the stock out last night but appears done by a gorila and did not have a very big screwdriver so will have to look for one, Thinking of changing both the link and the main spring, nice thing is all the parts are quite cheap and I guess the gun is quite old so nothing wasted in fitting new parts One thought if the ejector works so well this would indicate the gas system is ok giving a strong motion backwards so this may well indicate the springs are the problem in that they are not slowing the recoil of the block enough Any more suggestions
deershooter
are you using reloaded cartridges or new factory ones ? Deershooter

coyotemaster
Chris, The only thing that comes to mind for me is if someone drilled out the gas ports a bit to allow more gas through the action. If you have another 1100 about and some small drill bits or torch tip cleaning kit you can ascertain the same size as factory ports. It is possible to drill and tap and plug one gas port to reduce the pressure if that were the case. I have never seen one throw empties that far, especially if they are 2 1/2"s. A worn piston and gas seal doesn't sound like the cause but you never know.
