at106
We have an old baikal shotgun sat in the cabinet, however it doesnt really get used as it doesnt fit me or my dad. I shoot left handed and was thinking of buying an adjustable comb kit to make it fit better. Thisis the kit i was looking at, but what im wondering is if i'll also require an adjustable butt pad? Thanks

Gordon R
It doesn't require an adjustable butt pad. Almost completed my fourth adjustable comb mechanism, earlier this week. All four have been Graco. Cutting the stock is a simple enough job, as is recessing the bulk of the mechanism - a Rotozip is ideal. The trickier bit is making the holes for the bushes and lining them up in the comb, so that they slide up and down easily. I think the Gracos retail at £50-60, but I have bought mine for £25-45 each. Just taken a couple of photos. The stock finish looks a lot shinier than it is. I will be rubbing it down and getting a more matt finish. I will also finish off the underneath of the comb, after I finish sanding it 100% flat. Edited July 27, 2012 by Gordon R

Thanks for your reply, you've done a good job with that stock As long as i take my time, cutting the stock shouldn't be a problem, can i ask where you got your kit from? And when i get round to it i'll be sure to post plenty of photos
Gordon R
I bought my kit on this forum. Previous ones, I bought from the Gun Cupboard and E*ay. http://forums.pigeonwatch.co.uk/forums/index.php?/topic/159913-ajustable-comb-diy-help-needed/page__p__1358456__hl__%2Badjustable+%2Bcomb__fromsearch__1#entry1358456 One photo of my Miroku and one of my Blaser. Note my comments about the Blaser, In my haste, I drilled the adjuster holes on the wrong side.
HDAV
Honestly I wouldn't bother just sell it for a better fitting gun?

at106
I was planning on getting one of the graco kits but after adding postage it came to about £70 which is more than I wanted to spend. I got mine off eBay us from somebody who makes them themself and it costs £38 delivered. Here's the link http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221080817125?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2648#ht_500wt_922
Gordon R
I'm surprised no-one with a lathe and a small milling machine hasn't gone in to production. I have actually made one from bits of aluminium angle and tube, I had stored in the garage. The bolts and sliding nuts are easily sorted. My only problem was finding the comb bushes - I could only find steel ones. I just did it to see how easy it would be - not difficult

I just did it to see how easy it would be - not difficult Im currently thinking about this if I can get hold of a lathe, as I don't think there are any kits easily available in the Uk? Although instead of using a rectangular base plate, I was going to use two round bases as I think it'd make installation easier, if I can get a lathe I'll definitely give it a go! Gordon R
I have had a gun fitted with the two round bases, which do look easier to install on the stock - the comb is no different whichever type you use. However, when I did my last adjuster, I used a Rotozip - glorified larger Dremel - with a depth stop on it. Removing the wood from the stock took all of about two minutes. The tricky bit is definitely the comb, as you have to expoxy the bushes in vertically and the correct distance apart. If I was planning to do a few of these, I would have made a jig to ensure total accuracy. Made the bottom of the comb flat and touched up stock a little.
