Al69ec
I was given a box of 32g 6* carts today, real old ones and they are one of the smoothest carts I've ever used with hardly any recoil. I dissected one to count the pellets and found this plastic cap over the fibre wad,. Any ideas why it's there and should they be classed as fibre with this plastic inside? EdSolomons
It's to prevent gas leakage up the side of the fibre wad. The plastic expands to fill the bore. Much nicer shooting shell if you happen to have large overbored tubes which normally hate fibres (me). bedwards1966
I wouldn't say that 'fibre' is a very accurate description, as it contains plastic. I know I wouldn't be happy if I bought them as fibres to use where livestock goes and then found that plastic in them, it's not an accurate description. sitsinhedges
It's a plastic obturator that is used in place of an over powder card underneath the wad because it gives a better performance compared to the card.

It was above the wad not under it, that's my consern.

Al69ec
Underneath the shot What was underneath the wad? Just the charge. The wad had a really hard shiny bottom, like it had been sealed with something and it was impregnated about a millimetre into the wad
sitsinhedges
They must have had the work experience lad running the machine that day It should be powder, obturator, wad, shot. No reason for it to be any other way that I can see
Richard.Hosgood
Ah that's what they are - seen a few of them on a fibre only ground I shoot at - kinda makes insisting on fibre wads to save ths littering of plastic pointless :( Edited July 29, 2012 by Richard.Hosgood

sitsinhedges
Just a thort it maybe there to pack out the cartridges ? If that were the case it would still logically be put under the wad to push it as nothing else is there to do that job

Floating Chamber
I first saw these in green CCI Claybuster Fibre. Cx1000 with 23 grains of a powder that resembled AS.
