GAME/WILDFOWL CARTRIDGE CHOICE ?

Recommended Posts

I use #6 for pigeon and rabbit, #5 for pheasant etc. #3 steel for duck. Never been Goose shooting, but If I was it would most likely be a #bb steel.

As for the maker of the Cart that all depends on pricing. I have started to reload so hope to keep costs minimal and only load what I need rather than have loads of boxes sitting doing nkthing for years.

I use lead #BB on fox and still have a box with only one cart missing as I have only shot 1 fox

Game, ie pheasants, 5 shot, 30 gr, felt wad. Have used Eley Grand Prix for maybe last 6 years, before then Hull High Pheasant.

Wildfowl, usually 34gr of Bismuth for flighted duck or 36 gr of Hevishot for inland geese. Shot sizes 4 and 5, tend to find bigger shot in these smaller loads tend to not give consistent killing patterns against wildfowl. My game gun will only handle 36gr. Ideally against geese I would like 42 gr ( or more) BBs in a semi.

Forget reloading, its unviable for normal loads in 12 bore.

Most shoots are on land where Horticultural Farming may take place! If you use Plastic the odds are the livestock may ingest the wads ending up in a huge vet bill or death of the animal. I think when game shooting it's important to show a more responsible attitude and use Felt-Fibre as a matter of course.

Clear pigeon or Eley HB pigeon 32g #6.5 for game, Remington Hi Speed Steel 36g #2 or Eley Bismuth 36g #3 for geese and ducks
