Cranfield
A nice looking gun. Interesting you chose a side by side, not many people do nowadays. What are the specifications ?
Claydon
Hi Cranfield, This is one i picked up at auction when i was considering a black powder gun, you may have seen the post in other shooting related etc. The gun has 27 1/2" barrels 2 3/4 chambers double trigger, ejector, choked 1/4 & 1/2 with a 14 3/4" stock which may be a little short for me my stock on my other gun is 15 1/4( which is also a sbs) but i will use it a couple of times first and then add a pad if i need to. Got it for £180 which I felt reasonable, barrels very clean inside and out, whole thing feels very solid and as if not used much. Cranfield
A Parker Hale ejector, in good condition for £180, thats a good deal. I think you can get some bargains at the auctions ,if you know the right ones to go to. Thats a nice piece of wood. Be careful putting the pad on, don,t spoil it. Claydon
Yes, if i do put a pad on i think i will get my local gunsmith to do it properly it shouldnt cost that much thats if i do need it, It feels ok when mounting so we will see how i shoot with it first. Or you can get these slide on leather ones that i think William Powell do, at least then you have some options if ever you part with the gun or need to put it on another. Cranfield
Be careful which slip on sleeve you get. A friend of mine ruined the wood on a good Beretta, with a slip on sleeve. The wood under the sleeve became a lot darker than the exposed wood. A gunsmith will build up behind the butt plate. This can always be removed if you sell the gun, or left for the next buyer. Hammergun
You could get a gunsmith to build up the end with a black ebonoid piece like I had done. It looks really good, and not like an obvious add-on like brown wood blocks. Dont add a rubber pad as it will spoil the look. You got yourself a real bargain. It would have cost you 3 x as much from a gunsmith.
Claydon
Thanks HG Yes it was a very ggod price, giving it its first outing tommorow so i will see how it shoots, pigeons willing, before making any changes. I did pop into my local gunsmiths yesterday and he said cheapest way to do it was a kickezze pad £40 supplied and fitted, which i thought was quite reasonable, but i agree with you this could spoil the look of the gun. Its the dilema of you get a bargin then spend a lot on it and then its not a bargin, but if you cant shoot with it whats the point in having it!! The more i mount it , so to speak, the better it feels, well balanced, so i will wait before making a decision, no rush. Claydon
highdowns hunter
Claydon Why dont you take it to your local clay ground and whack off 50 shots with it SBS always seem shorter than they actually are compared with O/U and Semi Autos Give it some time and you may get used to it Good Luck
RED BEARD
i know i'm raking up an old thread, but i'm thinking of buying a parker hale sbs from a local gun shop.it is in nice condition apart from the barrels are very shiny and worn, but inside they are very clean and bright with no marks.the wood is nice and it is an ejector.the barrels are 26",and the action is smooth and does not wobble at all.it has a raised rib,it feels very nice.but it looks a bit of a pig.they want £145 for it,what do think to it??? all opinions gratefully recieved.ta,RB.
