FOXHUNTER1
Out again last night with Ratch to one of my permissions that hasn't been lamped yet this season so expectations were high. We set up before dusk between some bales on a rape stubble where I knew a litter of cubs was in proximity . Nothing showed and it was nearly dark so I gave a squeak using my hand and immediately a fox appeared from nowhere around 30 yards from us No 1 in the bag , it was the vixen Waited for around another 10 mins to see if the cubs appeared but sadly not so started to head back to the car lamping. Very next field I picked up those ruby eyes , I squeaked once again and it raced in to around 50 yards , Ratch shooting off sticks claimed No2. We then headed for half a dozen stubble fields which always produces cubs but unfortunately not a thing to be seen tonight As we drove past a couple of other fields Ratch commented that he had never seen a fox there but I assured him that I have shot them there before. This prompted us to have a look and lo and behold there was 2 sets of eyes at the top end of the field. I started calling again and one of the foxes came racing in to around 50 yards again and that was No 3 in the bag, The other just slightly vanished from view and I didn't expect to get a shot at this one but I called anyway and Unbelievably this one came in to 50 yards as well No 4 grassed We then decided to have a look back to the 1st field where the vixen was shot and Ratch picked up No 5 which I had to coax from cover with a little call. Not many nights go as perfectly as this as you seasoned foxers know , a night to remeber that's for sure as its Ratchs personal best on the foxes End of night shot ......
