gazzthompson
Hey guys, Might be gaining a small permission needed cleaning up of rabbits! Looking for advice as its my first. Firstly I'm going to print off the below BASC permission slip and fill that in, Then I'm going to print off a map of the fields to get the boundaries sorted and clearly defined. I'm going to give it a proper look (recon, if thats the word?) first and try locate the warren etc and mark it on the map. Then when comfortable, have at it i guess! Any advice for me ? Im aware a .22 might be more useful but can't afford one right now. I'm going to use 28-32gram fiber wad 6's. Tod
you dont say if your doing it at night or day as you dont want to be blamming away with a 12g at night, unless youve got a moderated gun, if using a shotgun in the day your only going to get one shot and they will be off in the warren, id get well hid near the warren and pick them off with an air rifle or further away with a rimfire, i use 32g no5 for rabbits. Blunderbuss
Have you got an air rifle, or can you borrow one?
Brisa
Air rifle would be the tool for the job if you cant afford a .22 rf. Quiet cheap and accurate to 45 yards or so and in my experiance will account for more rabbits than the shotgun.
libs
Shotgunning rabbits is great fun, obviously not the perfect tool for the job but thats what you have. I'd use a heavier #5 cartridge, and try to keep shots under 30/35 yards. Remember to sit the rabbit on top of your bead, don't aim at it - aim below. Make sure you gut the rabbits ASAP as the shot often pops the guts a bit. Have fun.
Jim c
Sure there's some people with fax that wouldn mind helping and letting you use the rifle with them
Scully
Get yourself a ferret or two,pop them down two different holes, stand back about 10,15 or 20 yds, load two cartridges, close your gun,and wait........and listen. Alternatively, you could do the above, then wait a little longer, then wait a bit more, then listen...hear a few muffled thumps;get ready. Then wait a bit longer, then when you open your gun to approach the warren to call your ferrets, all hell will break loose and there will be rabbits all over the place and you're stood there far too close and wth a broken gun!Great fun.
