ging125
I have found several signs of poachers on one of my permissions!!! A green balaclava, blue ground sheet, tyre marks, gates left open and now 2 young roe seem to have disappeared!!!! ( this years young) Can u recommend a low budget but reliable trail camera? There is alot of choice on the market, do they make any noise when capturing an image? Cheers Chris
Tommo
You want one of those infra red jobs mate, they capture pictures with no noise etc. Failing that, make sure you top and tail your gate hinges (so gates can't be lifted off) buy some better locks/weld covers to the stays so bolt cutters can't be used on paddlelocks. Also (a little trick we use) a length of 4x2 laid flat with 6" nail every 6" long it laid on the ground with them sticking up just inside the gate tends to stop them. We've also used the drop cap 12b alarm wires attached to gates, no deer will stick around if one of those goes off... T

ging125
I would love to do all those! Unfortunatly it's not my land. Landowner isn't too bothered as his livestock isn't affected(yet) Will get on the net now for a search! Cheers!
T-Bolt94
You could quite easily make one from a disposable camera. Do some research on line but I am almost certain I have seen similar things made. You would need to modify the press to capture button in such a way so as when the gate is opened it activates a microswitch or place a microswitch on the ground so if a vehile drives over it bam!! there are also other ways of making them from standard digital cameras and more complicated methods using PIR and the likes. al4x
The plank idea is for idiots. When a rambler jumps over the gate and has a 6inch nail through the foot your basc insurance won't help you
hillmouse
I am sure the farm contractor who finds your nail boards in a £600 tractor tyre will thank you for it by shaking you warmly by the throat and issuing an invoice with consequential loss added too. gixer1
£600??? I'd love to know where you buy them! Last contractor I spoke to with a modern john Deere was telling us 11k for a full set of tyres!!
hillmouse
Whatever the price and it is probably at the higher end, leaving nail boards about is definitely not safe or wise.
T-Bolt94
You could also use something like this and just stick and IR torch in the tree beside it if you think you really need the IR capabilities.
