  1. We have land in a few areas but it's going to be Banbridge way. You any idea where sells poults these days?
  2. Fantastic guys, I have a few people I know that I am going to ask also. Predator wise we have been on top of the foxes quite well so far so numbers should be fairly low. What would be a rough figure for getting started building a pen, net, wire etc and feeding costs. Roughly, as I know its very hard to pin a figure on. Thanks
  3. Good evening all, Currently I am trying to set up a bit of a gun "club" in NI (rough shoot for a group of mates) and we want to release Pheasants onto the land which we currently have permission on and which is relatively extensive. This is new to us all although, I have limited experience with other poultry. Predator management is key and building a finishing pen. However, what size should this pen be as we intend to release a few hundred birds and what are the pheasants fed on from poults to release. Also, when is best to release the birds and can anyone recommend any good sources of poult. Any information is very much appreciated. Kind regards T-Blt94
  4. How practical is a "paper" certificate to country people...mmmm...incase they hadn't realised it has a tendency to rain A LOT here, Paper + Rain = Mush, Mush + RFD = No. Hopefully a few modernisations are due.
  5. I would quite like to see the license move to a digital format such as a driving license style card with a Chip and Pin system built in which would allow you to have it updated so much quicker in shops, renewals and variations would be so much quicker and you could even view all your records online like online banking where you could make applications for variations and track any changes which are pending. But I never know who to make this suggestion to.
  6. Would you rate Zoom/Focus as a high priority? I know the NM 800 has the focus ability to give the nice square beam. Do the multi modes interfere much?
  7. Good morning folks, was just wondering if anybody has any experience with these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1800-Lumens-CREE-XM-L-T6-LED-Zoomable-Flashlight-Torch-Free-Battery-and-Charger-/161023881512?pt=UK_SportsLeisure_Camping_LightsLanternsTorches&hash=item257dc57128 . I know there is a rather extensive thread on the modification of them but I was just wondering if anybody can give me an honest opinion on how good they actually are and whether they are worth trying out ie what range the go to etc Many thanks
  8. My solution to the hard ground is a cheap Dibber and a Rubber Mallet from poundland to dig a "pilot" hole. Works a treat.
  9. Now it would be even better if they extended this to NI and moved licenses away from paper to a driving license style card with say an electronic chip that could be scanned when you buy ammo etc. I think it would be a fantastic step forward
  10. Yes, spring or I may consider a CO2 capsule but most likely a Spring. I am not restricted to the 12ft lb deal as all Air Rifles have to be licensed here anyway. I was looking at the Hatsan Stricker it is a touch above my budget but could be considered,
  11. Good evening, Hopefully someone can help me. I have a FAC and have a few different calibres however, I am looking for a nice air rifle with scope and mounts for a fairly reasonable price probably 100£ +/-. Are there any that people could recommend or suggest I stay away from. Would definitely consider a good second hand or new rifle. Thanks
  12. I know in NI there are proposals for some serious changes with ours going up to £120. Not sure at what stage they are at with this but I do know it is facing some serious opposition.
  13. Yea, not sure I have much rape on any of my permissions...Think I will wait and see what the weather brings but I definitely plan to go out.
  14. Hey folks, I was hoping to get my first day out on pigeons on Saturday on a freshly sown field, but expecting snow, is it worth it or are there any tips I should be aware of. Thanks
  15. You idea sounds good...you could also use the travel clock and battery method but that would result in a stake out. Good Luck
  16. I am also like most of the above...very OCD about keeping them clean and as moisture free as possible. Only takes a few minutes.
  17. Thanks for the video, as I said I found it very useful
  18. Buy the basic gear, a net, few decoys and make poles from bamboo canes. Good starting point then when you get more established decided what you want to spend/buy that's more less how I started
  19. Could you do the transaction through an RFD, Send the item to him and do the transfer that way.
  20. Comparing the size of the lead and the quantity, is fairly obvious watching this video...as it allows you to see them in comparison, therefore helps to understand how more lead with a greater charge will hit harder etc. It isn't meant to explain the detailed physics of each shot size and energy transfer. Likewise it is always useful to hear other opinions because shot size as this thread illustrates very well is very much opinion based, some like 6 for pigeon some 7 and some are happy with 7.5. This may not have really helped you as it looks like your fairly experienced, but I have a limited amount of experience regarding the other shot sizes as I primarily shoot pigeon and I found this rather useful tool.
  21. I went for a Winchester Model 101 XTR Lightweight...picked up a real bargain would highly recommend one!! Real nice.
  22. I was in a similar situation a while back with a very similar budget. Can be hard to find the ideal gun your looking for and I ended up adding to my budget to get the one I wanted. But I had looked at a number of Lanbers and a few Benellis. I would say take a trip to your local RFDs and have a look try out a few and see whats on offer. ATB
  23. It's not very scientific, granted...but it definitely helps to clarify the basics and might help those with not masses of experience like myself to chose the best load for the job.
