stevelovatt
Don't miss it!! Last month was a huge success - great targets and feedback from everyone. We use our own traps, batteries and remotes to ensure reliability - the shoot is set up and run for one day only - no practising!! This Sunday - 16th September, Garlands Shooting Ground Entries 10am to 2pm £100 1st each class plus an additional £50 on top of the prize pot in each class once we reach 110 entries or more. If we don't reach 110 entries then it's £150 High Gun and cash in classes as usual. Hope to see you at the shoot!! bunnybasha
Have the traps now been sorted? As when I went to the last shoot early I had 10 out of 12 stands firing no birds. Having at least 30 no birds which is very off putting. And maybe the trappers (supplied by garlands i assume) should be advised to clear the trap after the 2nd no bird instead of just keep pressing the button? stevelovatt
Thanks for the feedback Bunnybasha, we normally use CPC clays at all our shoots, no birds are about 2% as a rule unless something is really wrong. Part of the deal of being at Garlands is we have to use their clays, which isn't a problem but changing brands significantly like this can cause problems. The traps needed more fine tuning for the clay mix (which I have spent most of the last two days doing so if we are at normal levels on Sunday we know this is the issue and we have solved it.) I've thrown over 20 clays from each trap without a single no bird, we're hopeful things will run smoothly. We've been in touch with the manufacturer this week and found there is a better mix from this factory for more commercial machines (ie machines that have their springs wound up!), they are being shipped as I type but they won't be here for this weekend. This combined with extra fine tuning will certainly sort the issue but we have to go through the exercise this weekend. No one likes no birds - you use extra shells, get frustrated and don't put a good score together, we lose time and money not to mention pick up a load of bad press. It's a no-win all ways round which is why we won't tolerate it. We maintain our kit, buy new batteries every 18 months, have changed all the plugs on our traps that connect to the remotes to use automotive parts (no other grounds have done this) to ensure total reliability and a good shooting experience for all. Please be assured we're on the case. Steve Edited September 12, 2012 by stevelovatt

Azzurri
I'll be there on sunday for more of the same, good targets, never really had a problem with breakdowns apart from stand 1 but that was quickly sorted and didn't spoil the day ;-)
shannon
I have never heard of a stronger mix of clay targets for commercial grounds before. I thought all clay targets (fragments) were now designed to break down in time as per EEC rules Sounds like CPC are trying to get themselves out of a hole! Not for the first time... stevelovatt
I'd better just clarify that the clays we are using at Garlands are NOT CPC, that's the point. They're new for us. Steve
shannon
I am sorry Steve. I misread your earlier reply. Hope your event goes well this weekend.
stevelovatt
And the good news is that the No Birds were pretty non existent Trap modifications made all the difference so I guess whichever pitch of clay we opt for we have it sorted.
