figgy
I've just bought a new sx3 26" black shadow for pigeon hide work and wildfowling after reading so many good reports on the forum. I have fitted the correct shim for cast and drop, but have noticed when I have fired it a few times the stock has moved down slightly where the shim sits between the stock and the action,it's not much but it goes from being near perfect in the comb hight to too flat. I've tried reseating the stock and shim so its flush with the trigger gaurd underneath and flush with back of action, then retightening it but it moves again Is this normal and is there a fix for it. Tried searching the forum as sure I've read something on this in the past but couldn't find it. Thanks for any help Figgy
WinchesterDave
Sorry to jump in on your post but how do you take the butt off to put the shims on? Thanks.

figgy
Winchester Dave no problem push a number two Phillips cross head through the little slits in but pad and remove pad you then need a 1/2 " or 13mm socket to remove nut stock then comes off, but do me a favour and check the fit of your stock to the action after you fit the shim and fired a few off as mine has moved a bit so if you rub your thumb up the stock it has a small step onto the action, don't think it's supposed to be like that. WinchesterDave
Thank you figgy. I havent put any shims on mine yet but the one that comes already on it, from what I can remember has a tiny step onto the action, I can't remember what it was like when I first got it though . Dave. figgy
Thanks for the reply Dave. I can remember a post from a while back on this subject but can't for the life of me find it. I'm thinking of bedding the stock with resin to stop it moving. Figgy

Figgy I meant shim No. 1 sorry! It's flat at the minute, from butt to action, but not used it yet so will let you know of any movement, Dave. Thu
Old topic but i have solved this problem. Take of the stock. Put a solid tape like ducktape half around the recoil spring tube in layers (upper half). Width approx 1,5 cm from the receiver and out. Put on several layers until you cant install the stock. Then remove one layer. Remeber to use to correct shim towards you. For me (needed higher comb and wanted a little cast off 1R facing rear. You will se it on the shim. Tighten lockbolt wit a little blue locktite on so it wont come loose. Problem solved and the stock wont move down the couple of mm it will without this fix. Also wont get loose as it could over periode without blue locktite. The blue locktite will make it possible to loosen with a wrench
wymberley
Because this has just happened to me and more importantly, the fact that Murphy can strike whenever he feels like it, it's worth a mention. I cannot get my Maxus to shoot straight with just the one each of the particular shims provided. I'm not sure which extra one of two I need to give the cast/drop that I want so I ordered both. When they arrived, neither fitted and I'm still sat here waiting for the correct ones. Apparently they sent those for the SX3. Looking at the two types, whereas the SX3 version won't fit the Maxus, the reverse may just be possible. If they've made the mistake once, I see no reason why they haven't done it before. For the SX3, the width of the 'U' cut-out is approx 12mm and the height to the points is 13mm. The Maxus figures are 14 by 11mm. Possibly a red herring post, but you ignore Murphy at your peril. Edit: Rant: Damn me, heaven help this industry! They make the stock adjustable supplying one of each shim type and the maximum of two can be installed at any one time. Odds on are that some folk may just require two of the same. Do Browning stock any in the UK? Of course not. They have to come from Belgium. Consequently, as I've just found out, I'm sat here with an unusable new gun for another fortnight or so. Damn.
