denniswebb
At Grimsthorpe last week it was stated that there would be changes to the international board selection shoots. I think we have all come to realise that its getting too expensive to have all 2 day ones and this has been reflected in the low attendance even at stunning grounds like Grimsthorpe where almost half the entry was veteran class, although i think low attendance is more to do with hard target setting driving shooters from fitasc. It was also banded around that there would be selection shoots for Compak Sporting to send teams to compete, something i did try some years ago but was reluntant to go back on the International Board. I am sure that PhilR will fill us in on the details. Dennis
PhilR
Nothing to do with me Dennis, I no longer have any involvement in BICTSF. Plus you make no mention of other FITASC or ISSF disciplines. There is life other than Sporting!
EdSolomons
2 days is what kills it Dennis, not the targets! I'd have given my arm to have shot grimsthorpe but I don't ever have a whole weekend free to dedicate to shooting. The extra cost also puts a lot of people off. The thing that has put a lot of people off is the targets getting EASIER not tougher. People went to FITASC to see targets that don't often get shown in sporting; not the glorified skeet shoots that the major internationals have become. Sounds like grimsthorpe did a great job as usual, not heard any moans about the shoot which is good. Roll on one dayers!
Dangerzone
Spot on Ed!!! 2 days kills it for me too, can't afford the time or extra night in a hotel!!! The "hard targets" had nothing to do with the low attendance!!! I would loved to have had a go at Grimsthorpe, sounded like a great shoot.......... Gerry31
Up until a couple of years ago I shot every selection shoot I was never going ti make the team but enjoyed the event I did a good number of worlds and Europeans but times have changed its just to expensive to do now the targets have little or nothing to do with the lack of attendance incase nobody noticed times are hard
denniswebb
Unfortunatly tough targets do drive shooters away from fitasc, we have gone through this exercise many times and always end up with the numbers dropping away....I thought this year Hornet was spot on, had everything . Day 2 at Grimsthorpe was fairly tough and uncomprimising in parts, some stands every target a toughy, my mates wouldn't go because they knew what to expect. I thought day 1 was spot on, Mark and the team done a great job with the ground, its must have took them weeks to set it up, its a shame more shooters didn't go. I knew when i set up the Home International Series that one day shoots was the way to go. Times are hard and its only veteran shooters that have the time and money to attend. landyboy
i would have liked to do the ABT selection shoots this year but all 2 day 200 birders southern counties 300 miles away brook bank 250+ nuthampstead 200 and nottingham 85 thats nearly 2000 miles travelling and about £2000 in entries fuel food lodgings cartridges 6/8 nights away, then home international in ireland, just can't be done for the average working man with a young family !
