Roll turn over

Recommended Posts

I am going to try some rto finishes on my 3.5". My question is do I need to change my recipe or can I keep the same one with a star crimp

Thanks SSS

you will get a drop in speed and pressure there is a lack of data for rto finished shells in 31/2" the old charlton CSBO load shot well though it never made the claimed 1500 fps more like 1350 I have the odd 11/2oz load for STEEL POWDER but not for 381 if anyone has any data for the above thats been to the proof house I would also be interested as I have 20lb of 381 and 20kg of BBB that need loading up

the total lengh of a fired hull must be less or equal to the length of the chamber.

as for regarding pressure loss due to roll turn, depends on the original pressure of the load.

if you roll turn any cartridge thats already low pressure, its going to end in tears. i`ve made several lemons. shot just crawled out the barrel. durty little blighters.

if the original load is approx 13000psi, i cant se it being bad, as this is high so can be classified as HP cartridge and has different proof pressures. about 15000psi max pressure.

13000psi is hot enough not to suffer from poor ballistics from low pressure. also the load is 1.5oz of shot, so it is a large payload, so there is no problem !

cook.

So the load that i have been looking at which is from c&g data sheet (41gn csbo bpd multi-metal wad 42g steel @1529 fps rto card 775.40 presure )( over cip max) dose not do what it says on the tin speed wise ??

I have one of the first c&g disks the load reads as 31/2" ched case +primer 43grains csbo tps/cgr350 wad 42grams steel shot clear over shot disc rto @1500+ .this load runs at 1380/1410 fps and is hot this load has been double checked a few times (by other reloaders ) and always falls short of what is says on the tin . cip for 31/2" is 1050bar

the above load in my post is off one of there new data sheets and is 2gn les powder and a different wad and the same shot weight and speed ??? . what sort of fps can you get from a 3/1/2" steel or would it be best to get another powder for my steel shell

the TPSwad and the multimetal you can interchange there made in the same mould just the plastic is less flexable in the multimetal also dont get to hung up on speed large shot like BBB/4.75MM shifting at a gen 1350fps will hammer any goose Iv used the 43grain load for close to ten years the powder is a little dated now 381 and 380 leave it behind but it still kills well and puts game in the bag .load some up and try them befor you go out spending money on more powder

good loading Nick
