Beretta28g
Does anyone use, and get on with, Gamebore 3'' Mammoth 36g 3's? I use the cartridges in 36g 1's and really rate them, they pattern and kill well, i also use their 3.5'' Magnums in 42g BB but havent tried them much yet (not too many geese here yet). But the 36g 3's, i bought 100 last year and have shot about 30 of em, ive hit the birds but have not killed, or even had one drop with them. Anyone else experience this? motty
Apart from my home loads, they are the cartridge i use most on the marsh for duck. They are capable of killing mallard at decent range. You won't go far wrong with them.
kent
I do they are great. I have killed shortrange teal through modified with them and eaten the birds and Canadas via head shooting at some good range when pressed. Tested this weekend with my new kicks HF ported choke i got 23 and 26 strikes in the centre 10" aim posision with the only two shells tried - AT 40yds! Beretta28g
What with the 3's, maybe my Akkar doesn't like em. The 1's are great they have just accounted for another Mallard!
AlistairB
I've used the 3's and 4's in 36g, and they are a great load. They've accounted for 12 ducks and 4 geese on my 2 flights so far this season. AB
anser2
Gamebore mammoth 3s are by far the best of the UK loaded steel sheels i have used. They have accounted for several hundred ducks and perhaps 25 geese in the last 2 years for my gun. 3s in steel would not be the pellet size of choice when shooting geese , but sometime they catch you by surprise while duck shooting and as long as you do not shoot any further than 40 yards will do the job. The American Winchester and Remmington steel shells are better , but at a price so Gamebore 36 gr steel in no 3 is my stock in trade duck shell only using the USA shells when I know the birds are likely to be at extreme range. If you are hitting birds , but not killing them I suspect you are shooting at out of range ducks. 3s will not have the range of 1s. Beretta28g
I dont think their out of range, especially when you could almost hit them with the barrels. I just like the 1's, Whether we got a duff batch (their old stock, bought from when a gunshop was closing down)i dunno but another fowler who bought the same shells hasnt had much luck with em either? If you struggle to connect with birds at shorter ranges with steel, its often because the shot aint left the shotcup properly. Try more open chokes or a smaller shot size. Alternatively take em further out!
silver pigeon 3
That is one of my cartridge of choice for the ducks, i also use the 3 1/2 inch 42g 3's when i feel thst i need a bit more in the pattern, normally higher birds and on the wind. Have had good kills with both.
