Just wanted to say hi and introduce myself.

Been shooting for years on family farm and other places but only recently took it up seriously.

Last Friday took my new toy out, a pigeon magnet, set up with a rough horse shoe shape, magnet at the rear. A decoy in the tree above us, and a few around the hide just in front.

Even had pigeons landing in the middle and a visit from a hawk !

I took this as we had set up correctly, by luck rather than by knowledge, although we had read a fair bit on decoying.

Really looking forward to our next outing.

You will hear from me asking for advice but also informing you of what we found worked and didn't work !

Anyway, hi everyone !

Al.

And looking forward to getting a Clumber Spaniel for next year.

We had a rook decoy out there also !

From Essex, shoot in Essex, Wales, Suffolk, and have shot in France.

Pigeon mostly, but when in season lots of other things.

Have three 12's, a 20, and a 16.

Love my o/u single trigger, only a £50 tractor gun but I get on really well with it, been told that its too short, to choked, and too light !

I have a lovely Westly Richards with William Powell barrels, a twenty bore. My G. Bond 16, is hammer action Damascus barrel.

A side by side Bakil double trigger, and an under and over single trigger that I love shooting.

A lovely .22 air rifle with scopes.

There that's me that's what I shoot !

My you are a friendly bunch ! :-)

Had a nose on the tips forum page that is helpful, found a lot of it useful, but also it does show that the birds are affected by so many different things ! A set up one day works well, but another it has to be changed ! I think that's the fun of shooting, looking at our surroundings and taking a calculated guess what will work.

I found this with my fishing also, an old Jack Hargreaves kind of chap said to me once, " I see these carp fishing boys pick a peg and then stay there and fish the way they always fish, I walk around study the lake/pit for two or even three hours, then fish were I know there are fish, and I often bag up !"

I have found this is also true in shooting, nowt wrong in trying new things, different methods, having a feel !

What works in one area may not in another.

Are the birds affected by magnetic fields as well as weather ? Pylons one week are fine, the next no way Jose ! Clever little ******* aren't they eh ?
