My lad uses Eley Fibres for clay magman, 24grms though to keep the whack sensible, 28grms is at the heavy end of 20 bore loads. The seem to break clays well, a bit too well last time I took him

That price doesn't look bad baring in mind the market price and the fact 20's are bit more than 12's.

The funny thing is when you load you gun bag up, and 100 cartridges come just over half way up

As I was rummaging through my cartridges I found the 20s, and they are not waht I thought - too many Elay's about the place :good:

OK so they ARE:

Gambore Super Competition 24 gram 8's felt wad.

I paid about £115 for them when I got the gun, it wasn't a cheap shop, but that was last December.

They were 'patterned' against a piece of rotton plywood on my mates farm and they seemed pretty consistant

The surprising thing was it looked like the pattern was centre dense, until we worked out the wad was going striaght thought the ply as well  it was ony 3 or 4 ply and very wet.

As I said further up, the boy came shooting with us a while back and shot a very respectable card with them.

For an O/U or SBS I would say use 24 grams but not sure about the auto Mung, as it will soak up the recoil and may cycle the heavier loads better - trial and error I guess.

I use 28g of 8's for clays. :P The recoil doesn't bother me, it's the weight of the gun that puts me off the 12 bores. :P

I'm currently looking for some heavy, foul recoiling, large shot size, magnum!!! 20 bore cartridges. What ever for I hear you cry... I like to keep some heavier cartridges in a seperate pocket when rabbiting in case charlie fox pops his head out and requires potting. He puts in an appearance regularly if I only have the air rifle. :D

FM :D

Only just found this thread, Stuart, and yes, I'm almost fanatical about 20-bores.

What are you going to use fibre wad 9s for Sam, other than snipe? Sounds like a good deal, preice-wise, if for a not particularly versatile load.

I'm sticking with Hull Pro Twenty 24g #7.5s for clays, and Hull Sterling Game 25g #6 fibre wads for driven shooting. I use Lyalvale Express Super 20 Gauge Steel 24g #4s for duck, and after using them on a duck drive this ast Saturday, they absolutely belted the teal and mallard.

The above three loads are not cheap, but they are the best 20 bore loads in my opinion. And it's been a rather exhaustive, drawn-out test to come to that verdict.
