Del T - I think we have our answer here: out of the 8 or so of us, we split into two teams - the ones who are more experienced and want to crack-on can form one team and the ones like you, your Mrs and me can pootle round, enjoy some banter and just see how many we can hit - all nice and social. This way we cater for all needs.

How does that sound? :)

Sounds like a good plan to me, although I think there's only 2 of the guns who are CPSA registered anyway, so I think most of us will be fairly relaxed.

If people fancy it we could hit a pub afterwards? There's one not too far which does a belting Sunday roast :good:

Oh just to add, I've never seen anyone at Catton complain about B/O shooters, so I wouldn't worry about that. A lot of guns at catton seem to shoot B/O anyway.

Yeah will see what the fun prevention officer has got planned for me lock stock as its my first weekend home of my leave ;)

Roger that ;) My wife and I will be having a half-day coaching session from Beretta, our third with him (he is VERY GOOD!) but you'd be more than welcome to come round with us mate. Good think about Fauxdegla is you NEVER have to wait at any stand.

There ya go! Sounds good. Actually, one of the first things I did after getting my ticket was join the CPSA, so technically, I could register as a 'C' class at either of the registered shoots on the 23rd at Catton Hal or Worsley - but I'd like to improve a little more before doing that - maybe hit my first registered comp in the new year.

Yeah I have been thinking about booking a lesson with beretta too after the new year :) will see how things go if I wake feeling ok on the 23rd and in enough time I might head to catton like I say it really does depend on how raucous the lifeboat crew Xmas ball gets the night before on past records I might be face down in a kebab on the beach lol ;)

L S & B,

Regarding the entering as a C class, below is a clip I posted on the other forum a few weeks ago, a ground owner up-dated me be saying the "archaic process" is now done by the CPSA scoring programme that all CPSA registered grounds must have.

"Sorry but that C class bit isn't right! Newcomers or those who don't have a classification don't automatically shoot in the lowest class. For registration purposes they are "un-classified" If they wish to enter the competition (as above totally separate from the registered bit) they should go through a process of "classified on the day". This is an archaic process were the ground identify a number of stands at random, keep them secret from the shooters and compare the un-classified shooters score against those (secret) stands. The shooter is then allocated a class, just for the day, based on the current CPSA classification averages."

I went onto say the following;

As you can see this is a complected task and I don't think there are many grounds which go through this palaver so they do one of the following

  • Dissuade the the shooter from entering the comp & just shoot birds only
  • As they are an unknown quantity enter them in the top class.
  • Assume they are beginners and enter them in the bottom class.

As above, non of these is correct but tbh my view is that the CPSA rules should be modified to exclude un-classified shooters from competition.

I think it is a very common misconception among newcomers that they need to enter the competition in order to gain a classification.

So Bren when you rock up on the 23rd, flash your new CPSA membership card and tell them it's "Birds Only" it will cost just the same as all the others, £25 (as opposed to £30 for a competition entry) and hand your card in when you've finished and you will be on your way to your first classification. When you have shot 300 registered targets you can ring the CPSA who will issue you with a temporary classification based on those 300 birds. Assuming your not some natural shooting genius that first classification will in all probability be C class and now you can start entering the comps.

GOOD LUCK

Mr Potter

Right chaps, I'm setting off from home in about half an hour. Should take me about an hour to get there. I've no idea where I'm going.

I hope people are still going.

I don't know what everyone looks like, so if anyone see's a guy in a black disco looking lost, that'll be me.

See you all soon.

Steve

thanks Dereck will do mate catch you soon :good:

Evening Rob, must have missed you today, didn't get there till about half one after shooting Worsley but briefly spoke to Yellow Bear about an hour later. Heard about the hand, tough luck that mate, not a good thing to happen for someone self employed at any time of the year but halfway through the shooting season is adding insult to injury!

Hope it's on the mend and you and the family have a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
