houlsby
Phoned the range earlier as there having an open day and I was wanting to join up.. Only to be asked if I knew anyone who shot there.. No.. Right well you can't shoot here.. Ok, so can I pop down have a look round then maybe join.. No.. You can look round but not join as you don't know anyone.. What's that all about? Is that std procedure at ranges? I have my own fac, I wasn't expecting to turn up and shoot, just wanted to join! I thought the £150k grant they had was to get more members!!?

BR Mal My local club is £70 per year all inclusive, (but it is only a 12-lane, 25-metre range) - others up to about £300 per year, depending on facilities. Some also charge you a fee per visit as well, and also charge for targets.

BR Mal Our club has just gone up from £35 to £40 but a lot of clubs have expensive overheads to cover. Ranges aren't cheap
Vince Green
Funny I`d heard that about them too There are a lot of clubs that are wary of people who are unknown to them because they have had bad experiences in the past. Thats not really suprising as guns can attract the wrong types. Any secretary can tell a tale or two
David BASC
This is a private members club. Clubs have their own rules of admission. In this case you have to be introduced by another member of the club. I can think of many clubs who operate exactly the same procedure, live quarry shoots as well as target shoots. David Well there you have it, I suppose it will make a lovely Moto cross track when they all retire. I think I will stick to the farm, it's closer and far less hassle. David BASC
I can think of many clubs, that are many decades old, that operate on this basis, they are not saying they will not accept any new members, only that new members have to be proposed by existing members, that’s all. Oh and by the way, just for clarity, the grant the club got was from WHT not BASC, and it was for conservation work on the site, not a membership marketing drive. My regards David

My regards David May 2012 - Recent Purchase of Range The BASC loan has enabled us to buy our range. This means everything to the members of the club. The support we have received from BASC has been outstanding at all stages of the process and we are extremely pleased to be associated with such a professional and helpful organisation. The support from BASC is continuing as they are helping us to improve the facilities at the range and in the development of a variety of courses which will interest people right across the shooting spectrum. They are providing expert advice on an assortment of projects ranging from building a 300 metre range to supporting and enhancing our prolific wildlife habitat. Our development plan supports a variety of future activities for both experienced and new shots and the plan includes improving facilities for club members, such as a new clubhouse. Find out more : I did say investment not grant. Thank you for clearing that up tho David, at least people will know they have to know someone to join or local if you prefer All the best Karl. David BASC
We will help the range (BASC hat on) as they are an affiliated BASC club - we will of course always help our clubs as much as possible. However, I would say they are a successful club with several hundred members. The investment/ grant / cash, call it whatever, was from WHT (sometimes confused with BASC has several of the trusts are from BASC, and the correspondence comes here too...) BASC has no facility to make any such grants. Cheers David
houlsby
So it's a bit like a "yokel" pub for "yokel" people.. Thanks for clearing that up. Makes sense with the area it's in to be honest, I'm pretty sure they still have a "flogging the virgins" ceremony a few times a year. Diggle it is! jimboblincs2
Hi, I went to the open day, quick walk around, came home, no one seemed interested. Comments on another site are far from complimentary. You pays your £100 joining fee and then go for an interview, from comments made, they treat 30 years experience as not counting, it's their ball and if you want to play it's by their rules. So general concensus is stay away. 3 months rimfire probation before your allowed on the 100m range, I could go on but it would be pointless. Cheers Jim
Amazed
Give me a shout if you need to know more about Diggle Where abouts is it mate ? Am after somewhere not far from woodlands, Doncaster ideally Thanks Karl.
bicykillgaz
So as a basc member your not welcome at a club you've helped pay for with your membership fees unless your face fits or your an inbred? I can understand being cautious but that's just taking the pee why bother having an open day, surely a friends and family BBQ would have been more appropriate for them and less of a waste of time for the rest. David BASC
BASC membership fees were not spent on the grant to the club, it was from WHT, not BASC as I said earlier. So no, no BASC member has an automatic right to get access to this BASC affiliated club any more than you do to any other BASC affiliated club or syndicate. Many clubs have rules that you have to be nominated by an existing member, there is nothing unusual about that. David
bicykillgaz
I emailed the club the other day to find out what's what, very nice chap just rang me back. All you need to do to join is fill out the form which you can get online and drop it off, then attend a committee meeting who go through everything then your on your probationary period. You do not need to know a member or be related to one so who ever was told that must of been mistaken or the guys telling porkies, seemed genuine though.
