Benelli M3-90/ Franchi SPAS 12

i've had both of those, the benelli liked heavier loads, wouldn't cycle anything less than 70mm and after i'd had it fettled a bit was a good gun.

the spas12 liked the lighter loads, even 2.5" carts, but would jam open with the heavier stuff, the gun itself was really heavy, unpointable due to the ghost sights and was generally a bag of poop, it's only redeeming feature was its looks and rarity making it easy to sell on, everyone at the gun club wanted to play though.

Lol! So one is unusable in everyday situations and the others a bag of poop? Looks like you've just ****** on my bonfire!

This is why I regret buying my M2. It's just so damn perfect that I struggle to justify any further purchases without a huge guilt trip!

I doubt I'd find a Section 2 Spas 12 anyway?

Did you use the M3-90 in pump mode ever or just semi?

they can be restricted for sec 2, seen a couple on here in the past, in my opinion they're too much money, i got £750 for mine inc rfd fees, just because it looked the business.

Maybe I'm just falling for the looks a bit too much if they're a pile of poop to shoot?

Any other suggestions since Vinci's seem to be getting a pasting on here lately?

had a couple of sec 2 spas 12, i really like them, can't see me ever selling the one i've kept.

theyre heavy, but mine has so far been totally reliable using 28gramme clay loads.

i've never had a problem with the ghost sights either, but each to their own.

you will get everyone wanting a go with it if you do get one though.

if you decide to buy make sure it has the bolt recoil buffer intact, and have a look on the spas12 website, lots of info on the variations of the gun.

So how reliable is the SPAS? Does anyone use the pump function on the Benelli or is it just there as a back up?

I dont use the SPAS only have it for my collection. Mine is not overly safe as it missed the recall to have the safety changed from the rotating knob to lever. When load the gun with the saftey on and then turn the saftey of they were prone to fire. The other big issue is with the rubber bolt recoil buffer, if it is knackered you can smash the receiver. The other issue with using it is the ammount of buttons and levers, it is like the starship enterprise, still havent figuerd out what they all do.

It is fun to use a pump i use it as a pump 50% of the time.

personally wouldn't worry about the supposed safety issue of the beavertail safety.

i dont ever use the safety on a gun anyway.

any original receiver buffers will either be missing or so brittle that they'll break as soon as you use the gun anyway.

both mine i had new buffers made for them, not the end of the world.

if you use it as pump action the recoil buffers not such a biggie anyway, i use mine 95% as a pump action.

the only button i find annoying is the loading gate button, but after a few goes you dont take any notice of it anyway

and it becomes second nature.

if you want one buy one, can only see them going up in value, and pretty much as soon as one comes up for sale it sells

so there is definately a market for them.

if you find one with the folding stock buy it, they should be pinned so they dont fold but still look 10 times better than the

plastic stock ones..........bit cold in the winter though :)

I handled a mil spec SPAS 12 maybe 30 years ago. Had a clip feed option and from memory a full auto function as well as grenade launcher. It was the worst handling gun I have ever handled, weighed a ton especially when it had a loaded clip in it. Like trying to shoot a railway sleeper. The last 30 years have not changed that view. Why anyone would want one apart from prac shotgun comps defeats me, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I can only suggest you try one before buying.

Thanks guys for the extra comments and information. I am in two minds now due to all the talk of recalls, safety issues etc. Maybe I'll try to get a chance to either handle or shoot one first. The Benelli is still an option I suppose!?

Dont worry about the safety issue/recall on the spas. But if you are being a gun to use go for the benelli
