otherwayup
Had a quick attempt at patterning to see what was going on with my Escort semi with non-toxic after missing the other night. Gamebore SuperSteel Magnum 3" 36gm-3s and Eley Magnum 3" 46gm-3s both patterned similar through 1/4 choke, so guess the extra 10gms compensated for the higher density giving roughly same number of pellets. I only tried the steel through 1/2 choke, but the pattern was basically the same (35yrds) as the 1/4 choke, couldn't see an obvious difference. (Escort quality?) The worrying thing was there were quite a lot of 4" dia. holes in all the patterns (paper was only 24" wide so couldn't count strikes etc). Are 4" holes normal at 35 yrds? Is that too big? (sounds it to me).
Fal
Sounds normal to me. The only way you would get that tighter would be through an after market choke, a patternmaster or a Kicks etc. I patterned my new Benelli Super BLack Eagle II the weekend, Gamebore Mommoth 42g BB Steel at 30 yards and I didn't think the pattern was that great. It just goes to show how important it is to keep ranges sensible when using any shotgun, I dread to think how many pellets would be in a kill zone at 40-45 yards, if it was gappy at 35 it must be pretty bad at 35 +. I found that a 1/4 was way too open at 30 yards, I switched to 1/2 over the same distance and it was much better.
B725
From what I found out all pattern testing is done at 16 yards,I have tried different ranges as well
joknob
From what I found out all pattern testing is done at 16 yards,I have tried different ranges as well depends what range you will be shooting at,pointless knowing that you have a good pattern with a certain cartridge at say 20 yards, when you will be flighting pinks on the foreshore at 50 yards! craig
