Albert 888
As above have a .223 with a 24" 1:9" twist barrel. At the moment im doing a bit of target shooting using 55g sp ppu. Not doing that bad, im getting the hang of elevation, but not as good with the wind. Would using the 69g bullet be better for the wind. And what are your thoughts on the matter. ppu do some match sp ammo which I have ordered. Bedding and reloading are next in line after a bit more shooting. Shooting 100 200 & 300 yards at the moment, doing my first friendly comp with the. 223 on sat. Cheers Albert.
Si-Bore
The 69's would be better in the wind providing the 69 has a proportionately higher BC (it should have unless its a poorly designed bullet). The 69's will be going slower but the higher BC will allow more speed retention and resistance to drift. The further you shoot the more the difference will become apparent. At 300 yards the difference will be small but at 400-500 yards and in stronger winds I'm always a believer in shooting big bullets.
Vince Green
The only way to find out is to try it, every rifle is different but the normal trend for target work is towards heavier bullets and faster twists. 1-9 should be fine. coyotemaster
Hi Al, The Sierra 69s are fantastically accurate especially in conjunction with around 25-25.5 Varget powder. They are great for paper punching. If you are looking for a game load Sierra makes a 65 SPBT that works great on up to deer size game (if legal there)w/same powder loads. 1in9
I've been shooting the PRVI 55gn SP, 69 and 75gb HPBT Match, through my Steyr with a 20" 1:9 barrel. The 75gn had the edge of the three, consistently shooting sub moa. The other two were pretty close though. Going to try some 75gn A-max off the strength of it. kent
Quality counts. Stop wasting your cash on PPU IMO its a route to nowhere the brass isn't even much good . You need two loads 1. 69 grn matchkings, highest quality brass and Vhit single base powder ( ie.nothing with a 5 infront) with fedral benchrest primers maybe CCI benchrest (though these are harder and not quite so good). 2. something like 55 grn Nosler b/tip or hornady v-max with more disposable brass. The gun still needs proper bedding as I doubt we have a totally unstressed action here or one resting 100% square and flush/flat on its lug (at least it aint bouncing on the front action screw no more though). Some guns shoot OK with PPU but they will all shoot far better (especially at extended ranges) with high quality hand loads.

We use it on the ranges all the time and it just shoots the middle out of the target at 300 yts in .223. My mate Terry in August got one bull and nine Vbulls on a ten shot detail. Everybody seems to be using it now including a lot of the top boys. I use it in .308 and .303 and it does as well as any other match ammo. I don't buy rubbish ammo but I have reloaded plenty in my time. Your assertion that reloads are better is like saying home cooked food is better than you can get in a restaurant. Your view don't meet my experience. Some guns shoot it quite well at up to 300 yds but it don't shoot really well. Top boys? I know non who use ppu factory competitively. It all depends on who you call "top lads" and very, very club dependant. I don't doubt there are many clubs were anything sub moa will place you at 300yds though there are others were you need considerably better There are a few super factory target rounds like .308 lapua but it don't come cheap as it takes high levels of quality control beyond the price point of what is the cheapest of civilian ammo

I RO as a volunteer at many of the Nationals as and when. The people I was talking about are not club shooters although no doubt they all belong to clubs. You see a lot less reloaded ammunition than you used to a few years ago when it was almost universal . So you know none who use PPU and I know lots, there you have it.
