jam1e
I've just ordered a stock from this supplier in the USA. This one- http://www.rifle-sto...mholetarget.htm Anybody used them before, and if so any good? Long waiting times at moment. 10 weeks!! :o But will hopefully be worth the wait. It's a 96% fit, which i don't mind, as like abit of wood working and finishing. Just hope i don't balls it up after all that waiting!! I would of used Boyds but the only 3 stocks they had for my CZ 527 rifle were just as boring as whats already on it! They do sell some very nice rimfire stocks though, so thats next..... As you can see from Sean100uk's Thread. Very nice indeed Sean! Edited December 17, 2012 by jam1e
Dunkield
I have one of their stocks on my CZ527, there was a LOT of work to make it fit, but that didn't put me off as I bought another one for my CZ452 as well. I actually like working with wood so it didn't bother me in the slightest. If you get it and you don't like the look/feel of it or just don't fancy taking it on, let me know I will buy it off you - provided you only want sensible money for it. In my experience you can safely add another 3-4 weeks onto what ever they quote on lead time, as they are american they can't understand why anyone would want a rifle other than a Remington. 2 stories for you to read if you are bored... 527 http://forums.pigeonwatch.co.uk/forums/index.php?/topic/16933-cz-stock/page__hl__richards 452 http://forums.pigeonwatch.co.uk/forums/index.php?/topic/63619-richards-microfit-cz452-stock/page__hl__richards
jam1e
http://www.gunmart.n...2.5-50x56_pmii/ That is the stock on my gun and yes, it is mine before anyone asks I hate to bear bad news but i think you will find it too bulky on a 527 for sporting use Have to disagree with you Fister. With respect thats just your opinion, and we're all different and like different things. Thats what makes the sport so interesting. At the end of the day beauty is in the eye of the beholder.... As for Joe West, the stocks require a similar amount of work. Not sure where you get your prices from, (mates rates maybe??) as i've already looked into one of their stocks which i didn't like as much as the one i've ordered from the states. If i get hit with import duty on my stock it will still only amount to around $320, compared to Joe West's £300 plus delivery..... And last but not least i've seen the same stock with a Ruger 10/22 standard barrel action, and in my opinion that looked great to! Just to add that i enjoy abit of "woodworking" too so no big deal there either... Edited December 18, 2012 by jam1e
al4x
I'm amazed anyone bothers answering your posts Jamie why bother posting if everyones opinions are wrong, Fister is talking from experience rather than anything else. Have a look at the prices here which he mentioned they certainly start at a pretty attractive price. http://joewestriflestocks.com/tactical.php

Robin128
IMHO the best stocks for a 700 are made by HS Precision...barrel fully floated and no point glass bedding. Little fettling required...dremel from Aldi will do. Light weight and group 1/2MOA at 100. 223rem and 308win.
jam1e
I have no personal axe to grind but gave you my honest opinion, its a big stock and will need a lot of work. I spent approximately 20 hours just samding the Richards, about 2 on a joe west. They are both made from an identical material (stratabond from rutland laminates) and the machining marks are time consuming to machine out as it is a very hard material compared to walnut. Inletting for a rem700 is relatively straightforward, a 527 is a touch more complex and mine was a joke fit and took a lot of fettling just to get the action in the stock (long prior to bedding). I couldnt care less but its just my advice I wasn't being shirty fister. We all have an opinion, and i take on board your imput, as i do most other members on here, whether i agree or not, it's always good to get other peoples perspective. Just to add that i'm well aware you have a vast amount of knowledge. But some people need to make the mistakes to learn from them. If i'm one of them so be it.... Thank-you Some very nice stocks and oodles of info for me when mine arrives in, eer.... March probably! Your black and grey stock looks to be the same as the one i ordered. Is it the "Thumbhole Target Style"?? Also, did you need to do any work in the barrel channel to ensure it was free floating??
Dunkield
I think the 452 was a Tack Driver or similar name, it had hefty fore end which I didn't want so I just planed it all away. As Fister says it's pretty hard stuff as there is a lot of glue in there as well as wood. The barrel inletting was fine as it was, I just dropped a thin stainless steel washer under the front mount just to raise it very slightly out of the channel. They are more hobby stocks than fit and shoot - it all depends what you want really.
Dunkield
Mine was this, with a flat oval fore arm form memory http://rifle-stocks.com/silhouette.htm

I like what you did with the fore-end, so i'll be using the same idea as you, as i will do comb height. I've ordered some allen head action bolts as i don't want to ruin the originals. Er, the one in Dunkields picture is nothing like the one you have linked to on the Richards site, dunkields is a far lighter model than the thumbhole target you have ordered. Thanks for that...... jam1e
https://www.dropbox....7g68/IboTXW6mPD That is what you have ordered jamie less the forend vents, its a big heavy stock, sorry about the photos but they are all i have in dropbox of that particular gun/stock I can't tell the difference bar the colour and vents, how can you tell it's more heavy, the types of laminate wood used? I presume that's your rifle, Is it a Richards? If so, what finish did you use?
