Gunneravi
Ok. Possibly daft question but I don't pretend to know more than I do. I have some 42g no 1 for a bit of daylight foxing. In my o/u I have 1/4 and 1/2 choke most of the time. Is there a maximum size I can safely discharge through these chokes I.e will I blow the barrel up if I let fly at a Charlie through it? As I understand the choke constricts the load slightly if that load is to big can it struggle through the choke? I'm sure it's a daft question but if I don't ask I won't know lol! Thanks lads
Big Mat
Should think you'd alrite with that. Now if you were shooting steel through full choke, then you'd have problem.
evo
the max steel i put through my full choke is no 4s you cannot use any bigger in mine but doesn,t bother me as i normally use 5s and 6s anyway
Guest cookoff013
with lead, i`ve used tight chokes with any shotsize. there is no limit. but i do advise using least ammount of choke for shotsizes such as buckshot. lead is really soft. as little choke as possable just for pattern performance. now for steel there are shotsize limits and choke limits. if i remember the maximum shotsize for 12gauge is 4mm though choke of 1/2 or less. however the british guntrade association recomend no more than 1/4 choke. for 20gauge it is different again. dont forget #1s are still in the birdshot catagory, not buckshot. so blast away. bicykillgaz
I've put 50g no3's through 3/4 on my old hatsan and 42g no3 through my old Baikal that was chokes 1/2-full so you'll be fine.
ChrisAsh
You gun manufacturers manual should list any limits on use, different makers state different limits Dont trust idiots who just say you will be fine, they are not going to be a perfect whitness when you put in a claim for loosing a hand or eye
hawkfanz
if there lead ammo your ok most older fowling guns ad lots of choke and used big loads of bb an 1,s for geese so no problem.
