Good NV - Bad shooter

Phone call off Foxhunter asking if i would like a look up to his permission to try for a Fox.

Is the Pope a Catholic...what time?

We arrive at the 1st farm, set up and head into the 1st field. No sooner had we picked up a pair of eyes

than the neighbour was out with a torch and his dog barking loudly.Mark went over to explain and even got a "sorry" off him..meanwhile i was watching a large Fox through the NV wandering out the far side of the field.

On the other side of this extremely wet farm was a pond which Mark hinted often has a Fox around it..he was right.

Unfortunately it was right on the brow of the hill and even when it moved off there was lots of rushes between us and with the full moon it eventually was spooked enough to hightail it out of Dodge.

Onto the 2nd farm.here Mark told me about a white gate he was getting over once, only to see a Fox not 10yds away hunting the rushes..."in fact we'll have a look there 1st" he said.

I checked the field 1st with the NV...nothing.

He checked the field with the lamp and some lip squeaks..nothing.

So we were just about to climb the gate when Mark had 1 last flick of the lamp and tapped my shoulder. :w00t: Rifle onto the gate post, lamp on and there was a Fox sitting some 60-70yds away just looking at us..where the hell had she been or come from?? oh well, she was duly dispatched and the inquiry began.

Now onto the other side of this farm.

We headed to an area FH had seen a litter of cubs in the summer.Nothing doing so we set-up under a tree on the edge of a small wood.Fox-Pro caller 50yds out into the field and a Hare call was played.Within 2 minutes i saw something move slowly over the brow of the hill in the next field,Mark had the NV and confirmed Fox.We decided to NV this 1 seeing as it was coming in nicely, seemed no need to maybe spook it with the lamp (good call as it turned out)

I re-adjusted the parallax on my scope to suit the NV and picked the Fox up coming under the fence.

It was moving quick at this stage and i had to adjust my stance..i caught my hat on the barbed wire and by the time i had freed myself,i had to lift the sticks and re-settle again.By now the Fox was right behind the caller but some 130-140yds out and constantly looking at us.It stopped and i fired...and shot under it... :/

All my fault as because it was muddy,i was squatted down instead of having a knee down to steady myself.Although when i 1st set up,my shoulder was against the tree and i felt steady, but after re-adjusting i was against the wire of the fence..not as solid.

So a harsh lesson learn't and as Mark said...maybe should have been down on the bipod where a solid stance is certain. As stated earlier, using the NV means it's not lampshy..small consolation :blush:

Felt gutted as it would have been Foxhunters Fox no 49 in his quest for 50...

ah well,he'll just have to get his ***** out again. :shoot::lol:
