il cacciatore
Was out and about at a partridge shoot today and got this monster It`s a Cep and is TASTY Going back on thursday to get some more Noway. Youve stumbled apon something very sought after. Dont tell anyone where you found it. The Italians have a saying: Dont tell the wife where the mushrooms are. They're called porcini in Italian which means little pigs. You should have cut the stem cause if you pull them they wont grow back. Nice find. Ferretboy111
You should have cut the stem cause if you pull them they wont grow back. In fact fungus has thousands of microscopic threads that trail all over the floor/tree stump etc which spore, mushrooms are just a larger product of these so infact you could pick the lot of them and they would still grow back another year. Look my conservation and environment degree is good for something.

Lord Geordie
When i saw Super Mushroom in the heading i thought it was a wish to send the like to Iraq :( Nice find though HD the mushrooms I was picking have all dried up. il cacciatore!!!!!! I would have thought the Spores would keep them going more than the roots? You learn something new every day Will have to take a walk in Blanchland as there are LOADS of toadstools along the river etc LG
Ferretboy111
The microscopic threads act like the root, but they also spore themselves aswell as the mushroom itself, so will rarely die completely off, they will lie dormant untill the conditions are right again for the cycle to repeat itself.
