kennett
Hi all, have noticed in the last few days that the abs on my l200 has started kicking in when braking at low speeds, even on dry roads. It usually happens just before the truck stops completely, I have tried braking hard at higher speeds and it is fine then and there are no warning lights on the dash. Could it be dirty sensors as I do quite a bit of off roading.
Schern
Could be a damaged ABS rotor but you'd have to take the wheels and brake discs off to be able to check them I should think (assuming L200's have abs rotors).

Spaniel
on my pajero there are sensors on the front wheels and if these get dirty on comes the ABS Im also told if one of the exterior lamps goes out, the ABS will also come on... When it happend to me i got under the truck and brushed the dirt off of the sensors and the ABS have not come on again since I guess thats why i see so many 4x4 down the jet wash on a sunday..lol
al4x
Usually if they get muddy or you have a sensor issue the abs light comes on with mine. Have you checked tyres / pressures just in case before taking the front wheels off to check. The other thing can be either a contaminant on a disc making one wheel work too hard or ineffective rear brakes
kennett
Thanks for all the replies, might be worth looking at my rear brakes, have noticed the handbrake creeping up
delburt0
sensor problem, even though it may feel like its from the front , check them all if you think it feels like the front o/s it could be the rear n/s and so on you wont tell untill you have done them all or the faulty one at least... 1 way to find out , if you remove the abs fuse and the problem stops its a sensor, the light will come on when you do this but the brakes will just work in a convential way with no abs but at least you no its a sensor ,, Edited January 5, 2013 by delburt0
jackinbox99
Another vote for the sensor from me. I had the same problem with one of my cars after I fitted new brake pads - turned out in cleaning the brake calipers I got some dust over the abs sensors. A quick whip of the wheels off and I was amazed at just how much **** / gunk had built up over the sensors over the years - it was a wonder they worked at all. Good clean up and problem solved. Ive also had an abs rotor fall off on one of my cars - you can replace them albiet its not easy. On this particular car (peugeot 206) it was easier to just replace the CV joint which comes with the rotor on. About 30min job and 35quid for the part. neil82
forget about checking the sensors, this type of fault is pretty much allways caused by a broken sensor ring, if it was sensor fault the abs warning lamp would come on as its picking up a fault in the electrics, reason the lamp does`nt come on now is, as far as the system is concerned its working perfectly, just that when the split passes the sensor it picks up the larger gap and thinks the wheel has locked, some are available separatly but best (and easiest) is to just replace the joint (also check the fronts first, usually the one that rusts the most due to beeing exposed)
