It was bloody stupid and to say it may have only blinded him is of little relevance. It's not only his own safety but the fact that he was being watched by god knows how many people and it sets a horrendous example. He dropped the rifle butt-end first, blew out the snow from the front sight and raised it to his shoulder again. The spectators are behind him, are they not? Having read the story and viewed the clip again your totally correct front sight not barrel, doesn't justify his actions?
