    Shoot over a hunt

as usual there is a lot more to this story than we know. If he had gone to the lengths of putting signs up saying he'll shoot hounds on his land then clearly him and this hunt have quite a bit of previous history. No doubt both sides have been at fault.
  3. so, little update. I'd made arrangements with a local RFD to store the guns if i couldn't get a s7, so a few days before the certs ran out i emailed the force asking if my renewal won't be completed in time would they issue a s7 or should i put the guns in storage. I got a phonecall the next day from a woman in the firearms dept who said as i'd sent my forms in with plenty of time (? haha) they'd issue a s7 and it would be with me on friday (it was wedneday, certs run out on the sunday) friday arrives...no s7...ok it'll be with me saturday. Nope. Monday rolls round, I email a bit worried asking for email confirmation. tuesday arrives...and so does the s7! it was backdated to when my certs came out so i was covered. they never did email me back. Quick question though, am i ok to hold the rimfire ammo i've got? nothing has been mentioned or do i now have to give it to a friend?
  4. just remember dvi does not do sound, only video.
  5. Yeah the insurance was a big draw for me. seems though there is no obvious 'one being better than the other'. I'll have to read up more and decide which is best for me.
  6. so my rifle would be useless then on a s7? how annoying. good shout on the email, i'll give that a go nearer the time. i'm only going to store with an RFD as a last resort.

    Fleas?

ring your council pest control. we had an issue, some councils will do this for free, ours charged 50quid and the guys turn up with spray and will hose the whole place. they use much stronger stuff than you can buy commercially.
  8. I've been a member of BASC now for 5 years, however I'm signed up to receive emails from CA. It seems they are far more vocal in their support of shooting and more pro-active in their stance regarding anti's etc. I've not yet really looked into the benefits of joining but thought I'd ask on here what the consensus seems to be. Why have you chosen one over the other, experiences of them etc?
  9. Been in touch with some local RFD's, am looking around £30 a month or thereabouts for storage of a rifle, 2 shotguns and 10 boxes of ammo. Doubtful I'll get the s7 but that's my own fault for not submitting with enough time.
  10. Thanks for the replies, yeah I thought putting it in with 5 weeks to go would be fine, until I started reading! I'd be fine with a temp cert, at least I wouldn't be paying storage fees! Out of curiosity any idea how much RFD's charge for a rifle and a couple of shotguns?
  11. My certs run out on 12th december and it was only today I sent all the documentation off 1st class recorded. Completely my own fault for not sending it off sooner. Having had a very quick look through this section of the forum it seems these things take months! Anyone else been in this situation? As it gets closer to cert expiry is it a case of putting the shotguns, rifle and ammo in storage with an RFD until the certs eventually come back?

    Bonfire night

wow, I would have thought the people on this forum would be a bit more open minded than the usual 'I DON'T LIKE IT THEREFORE IT SHOULD BE BANNED' brigade. Such a moronic british attitude to anything someone doesn't approve of.

    Best Option?

if its just broken screens they can be replaced easily enough.
  14. we use makita at work, dewalt stuff seemed a pile of **** in comparison. Makita has taken a fair bit of abuse and still going. 18v impact gun, drill, battery grinder etc.
  15. Good on you for leaving your details. Hopefully the person you hit is just as decent. Going through the insurance benefits no one so ideally getting it sorted between the two of you would be best. Despite all the horror stories a few years ago I came out of a friends house and found my car with a broken headlight and a girl stood next to it writing out a note. She'd left her name and number on and was very apologetic, she'd reversed and hit my car. I thanked her for her honesty, told her I'd sort it as cheaply as possible. I found someone on a car forum selling the headlight i needed, picked it up and fitted it, £20. I messaged her to let her know and gave my bank details to transfer the money into. About a month later i was checking my statement and couldn't find any credit of £20 in there. I spoke to her again asking if she'd had a chance to pay the money yet, she said she had and to check around the 12th of the month (or something like that) I did, and the reason I hadn't spotted it was due to the fact she'd paid £25 to thank me for sorting it so cheaply for her! I'll be honest, if I wasn't with my girlfriend at the time I'd have given her a shout asking her if she fancied going for a drink (she was fit!)
  16. you sound just like the anti's over here. has the handgun ban helped us?
  17. years ago i had the idea of leathers that bikers wear having lights built into them. indicator lights on the rear shoulders, a series of red lights down the spine that could work as rear light/brake light. never took it any further than a daydream, then a year ago saw a company had done a prototype of it.
  18. was his fear well founded? would anyone have cared if he'd simply excused himself and gone the loo?
  19. stick it on ebay, get a few quid for it.

    No photo's

with digital storage there is no excuse not to take lots of pics and keep them. you might not look at them again for 10+years but i guarantee when you do you'll be glad you kept them!
  21. haha! awesome! what a pic to have to show the grandkids in future years.

    Second jobs

as others have said, this wouldn't make any difference if you had two jobs, one paying 25k a year the other 10k, or one job that paid 35k. you'd pay the same amount of tax regardless. There are a few scenarios where say the 2nd job just pushes you into the 40% tax bracket and if you had a company car you'd suddenly have to pay 40% on it instead of 20%, but for the most part it is straightforward.
