Ant8681
Hi all, I am looking to get myself another rifle in .177, I would like to get one that maybe next year my son can also start to use as he is getting to that age and wants to get out with me. I like the look of the Contour super six but have not had the chance to fire or see it fired, are there any other small pcp rifles out there (not into the ratcatcher crosman range!). I already own a Hw100 in .22 so the thing is, is there really going to be much difference in accuracy and how do brococks stand up to a bit of abuse as I do alot of hunting? Thank you in advance Ant
secretagentmole
Pricey and from what I hear online Customer Service is very very patchy too. You want a cheap low cost cheap shooter? Look at an XS79 converted to HPA, a decent enough light weight hunting rifle!
fenboy
They are suppose to be a decent enough little gun and nice and lightweight for a youngster, but personally I think the Air Arms S200 would fit the bill and be a better gun , you can get after market conversions to make them multishot if you feel the need. FalconFN
Or possibly a BSA Ultra? Be careful though, once you start shooting .177 you may not go back to your HW!
chrisjpainter
i've played about with a contour in a shop, and if ever there was a gun that was too light, it'd be that one! It might be good for a small child, but as fenbooy said, a AA S200 would be a better bet. Can I ask how old is your son? My guess would be that by the time he's 16, he'd be able to handle the extra weight quite happily and would start to feel the countour to be just too light. The Ultra SE looks pretty good too, but still a bit pricey as they are very new. The Falcon Lighthunter might also be one to look at. Looking at any carbine though (HW excepted as that's still a beast!) would be worth doing. They have shorter barrels and cylinders, which means that a higher proportion of the overall weight of the gun is placed in between the the hands, making them easier to support for longer periods of time. It's not just the extra lbs saved, it's where the weight is that is important. Keeping it all tight and close to the body makes it far more manageable. hope that helps! pabs
It's not just the weight of the rifle that's a consideration, it's the LOP as well. This is even more important than the weight....
