barell protection... wax?

I read once that some sort of wax was put on the barrels of guns to protect them. anyone heard of this or know what wax?

I have a s/s I use on the foreshore which i was going to get reblued/blacked..

How best can I protect the metal work from rust?

I always dry off and clean guns as quick as possible when leaving the foreshore but as most will know..it doesn't take long for the rust to get in.

Our marsh warden swears by some spray which i cannot remember the name of, but they use it on motorbikes to get keep mud/rain off the nice chrome bits! Something silicon based i think :hmm:

Ahhh yes I think muc-off do a silicone based spray for bikes.

Thanks for replys.

Balistol is great stuff been using it for years! Though have started to use ""vaseline "" just a quick wipe over before setting off and after cleaning another quick wipe,, works really well as it smears rather than rubs off.

Bit embarrassing though saying to the misses your """wiping your your barrel down with Vaseline,,,,,l, and your off onto the marsh with your mate and your Vaseline coated shooter"""""". Works though,,, try it and it's cheap
