Went out rabbiting last night with the 17hmr and managed this small vixen

She sat at about 20 yards just looking at me then started to walk off, a quick shout and she turned sideways and a well placed shot at about 30 yards put her down...

fair play rich .. nice and close too

I think there was something wrong with her...she just looked all sick...she didn't want to run she just slowly walked off and when I shouted she just stood there...she also had the very first sign of mange just a few patches....and she absolutely stunk...considering its a country fox and not urban one there was no challenge in dropping her...normally we have to work hard for all our foxes..

Are you sure it is not a 'dumped ' fox ? All the signs are there ,no real fear , no knowledge of bolt holes ,suroundings ,etc, mange , We get dumped foxes all the time ,usually 4-5-6 at a time , OK for quick mop up as long as you get them quick

It could have been but its the first one if it is...everyone counts tho at this time of year..

I've had this before, normally something wrong and they're either expecting help or just want to be put out of their misery. The farmer on one of the farms I shoot on told me years ago about a really ill looking fox that turned up in the yard one morning and just sat looking at him. He said he went and got his gun, came back out and it was still there just looking at him as if it knew what was going to happen. He said he felt like he did it a favour when he shot it.

ive shot a few battered foxes before but they have allways tried to escape or run...this poor fox just walked off till i shouted then just stood there...hate seeing them like that.
