kiffy
hi folks, ive just been and had a look at a neighbours shotgun, its an acciaio vickers garda sport side by side, anyone know anything about them? ive never heard of them but ill be honest in saying that means sod all as im pretty new to shotguns he said hes had it since the miners strike and it was neraly new then (miner bought it new but needed the money) so im guessing 30 ish years old. ive had a look and theres the expected dinks on the stock, and some marks on the bluing but generally its in pretty nice condition, looked down the barrels and they look as good as my new lanbers and it feels really tight to open so im tending to believe the guy when he says hes not used it... i guess what im leading to is how much do you rekon it would be worth Edited February 13, 2013 by kiffy
mudpatten
Can`t help too much but I have a vague recollection that the Vickers part refers to the steel from which it is made.
TIGHTCHOKE
It is refferring to the type of steel that the gun is made from. It will probabbly be a generic Italian firearm from one of several makers. There should be some details of the actual factory that are out of sight until you take the gun apart. Good luck
kiffy
thanks for the reply guys, any ideas of a value? guy wants £
TIGHTCHOKE
Doesn't sound too bad, do you have a local RFD who would look at it for you? If it fits you and has the choking that you want then it might be a good second gun. have you used SbS guns before?
kiffy
not used a side by side before but long before id got my sgc i had fancied one and as its cheap enough the fact that it will get very little use doesnt worry me. as for fit.. feels nicer shouldered than either my lanber or escort and as its a stright stock its suitable for a left handed shooter like myself
sp3k3y
I have one off these in 20 gauge model 250. cracking little gun and for that money you cant go wrong. acciaio vickers is the name give to the steel used ( supposed to be top quality). I have been unable to find much my self about Garda sport. On one side off the barrels it should say model and a number (usually poorly stamped). The barrels are more than likely chrome lined and most were 3" chambers so check the markings on the barrels. This link will give date proof marks for Italian proof house http://forums.shooti...old-is-your-gun this link is for choke markings http://www.hallowell...choke_chart.htm hope this helps a bit sp3k3y

kiffy
i know he did want a fair bit more than £180 at one stage so doubt ill knock him down any more, and hes a really nice guy so wouldnt want to hammer a price outa him.. i havent got money to waste (got none since getting my sgc) but id be happier paying what he now wants. thanks for the links, had to rush out to a meeting tonight but called in on my way past and said ill pick it up tomorrow so the links will come in handy
kiffy
bought the gun, quite pleased with it... might not be worth a fortune and might not be worth what i paid but it was worth it to get in with a fellow shooter who has offered totake me out on his permissions would still like to know more about it if anyone knows.. internet seems very quiet about this gun
