WezC
Drove all the way to Ian Coley ground from Devon today only to be told my buddy could not shoot as he hasn't got a cert (yet). I questioned it, as I have taken him with me to 5 other places and never had a problem before. I was quickly put in my place and informed it was against the law !! In quite a blunt tone I hasten to add (grumpy ******), followed by a lecture about some bloke shooting his mates somewhere.... (He could shoot , if we stumped up 25 pounds for someone to watch us.) So it would seem all other places are breaking the law ? That aside, we went into the shop, as I am looking for a 30" Sporter to replace my Lanber (already). Asked the sales man what they had in the £1000 quid range. Got shown one gun before the fella walked off !! Like wasn't worth his time to sell just a £1000 thing.. All in all, not impressed.. Note: I am not always grumpy, honest , It's just that I bend over backwards to make sure every single customer I have is happy, so I am not used to apathy when trying to spend money We went to Brook Bank on the way back instead, and have to say, what extremely friendly people there, polite, cheerful, and no issue with the mate shooting. (I didn't remind them of which law they were breaking). Wez www.wezmoto.co.uk

gazzthompson
Some places allow it and have the appropriate legal means (certificate/exemption whatever its called) some don't. Always check I guess.

Wez www.wezmoto.co.uk I don't think they have a S11 cert which means you have to have "supervision" if not a SGC holder.Amazing really on a ground like this but have several mates who have been caught by the same rule (but not driven from Devon however). The incident in Nov 2011 when a group of people were accidentally shot (at another ground) is irrelevant by the way - the shooter had a SGC so would have been allowed at Coley's - though possibly not in the condition he was in on that particular day! The guys in the shop are not the most attentive or skilled are they? It may be that they pay more attention if you are spending £5k+ as i am sure quite a few people do in there. As it is most of us get the grumps treatment especially if they have to get a gun or two out of a rack, feels like the "this not worth getting out of bed for" syndrome. Having said all that it is a really good ground to shoot on with some challenging stands. You might feel it was worth the trip in the future when your friend has got a SGC and you fancy a day out in the week or on a Saturday. lakeside1000
never had a problem, often used to take first timers who wanted to just try out the sport without getting into spending money, for a few years I didn't bother to renew my cert due to pressure of work and family but I was always welcome at the club shooting as a guest just to keep my hand in, don't know what their problem is but I wouldn't bother going back, as for their sales people, this attitude seems to be more and more common, its as if they are saying 'buy it, don't buy it I don't give a ****', I would have complained to the management and made a real fuss, what have you got to lose, might get some discount. Livefast123
You drove past plenty of good grounds to get to Coleys, Brookbank is my local but you have also got the Mendip Shooting Ground and in my mind the best for service Ivythorn Sporting near Street. Places got 1 shot at service with me, If I don't get it then I won't go back. Edited February 17, 2013 by Livefast123
