12boreblue
Hi Chaps I have just been given a ponsness warren 800 plus (i think) reloader. I want to start off by reloading some pigeon cartridges, would be great if anyone can offer me some reloading data for a decent shell, preferably 32gram 6s with a fibre wad. I am intending to use my used clay shells which are kent velocity 28 gram 7.5s. I have a local shop that sells primers, shot and wads, but as yet I do not know what make, he has advised he can get me anythiing I want, which is good, but there seem to be many suppliers on the internet. many thanks Edited February 17, 2013 by 12boreblue

You might have meant a 21mm fibre (which is usually used for 28gram loads) 18mm fibres are usually used with a 4mm nitro card for 32gram loads but your powder might not be very bulky needing the extra wad length to take up space maybe
sitsinhedges
Vectan A1 is a good powder for these loads. http://####.co.uk/vecta1.htm Edited February 17, 2013 by sitsinhedges

12boreblue
Being a complete novice in this area, am I right to conclude that the loading sequence is powder;overpowder card; fibre wad; shot? Or is the overpowder card to take up depth?
Guest cookoff013
Being a complete novice in this area, am I right to conclude that the loading sequence is powder;overpowder card; fibre wad; shot? Or is the overpowder card to take up depth? thats correct, although the primer usually is first. you can make any pigeon shells just by using #6 shot with the respective recipe anywhere from 24grams to 36g of shot would do. most economise or reload classic loads. A1 is good at this application, so are alot of other powders. gm3 etc... pressure is usually the key to exellent reloads.... ever wonder why the data .. http://####.co.uk/vecta1.htm doesnt publish lower than 600bar? thats because at that pressure everything settles down consistently ie same speeds shot/shot etc. with 12gauge thats 81% of the maximum ptmax. thats 81% of the working pressure for cartridges, anything over 740bar is to hot ¬! cook. most of the good performance comes from above 80% or 600bar. its a line between exellent and too hot ! Vince Green
If you want to make a classic cartridge try using Green Dot or Unique powder but its far from the cheapest option
